چکیده

We report on the results of a BeppoSAX observation of the dipping LMXRB EXO 0748-676 performed in 2000 November. This is the first simultaneous observation of this source over the 0.1-100 keV energy range. The persistent spectrum is complex and shows a soft excess, which requires the inclusion of an ionized absorber (with a sub-solar abundance of iron). A cutoff power-law is a good fit to the high energy part of the spectrum, with a photon index of 1.3 and a cutoff around 50 keV. The 0.1-100 keV luminosity is 8.2×10 erg s.

The broad-band X–ray spectrum of the dipping Low Mass X-ray Binary EXO0748–676

We present results of a 0.1-100 keV BeppoSAX observation of the dipping low-mass X-ray binary (LMXRB) EXO0748–676 performed in 2000 November. During the observation EXO0748–676 exhibited X-ray eclipses, type I X-ray bursts and dipping activity over a wide range of orbital phases. The 0.1–100 keV “dip– free”(ie. dipping and eclipsing intervals excluded) spectrum is complex, especially at low-ene...

A Strong X-ray Burst from the Low-mass X-ray Binary Exo 0748 676

We have observed an unusually strong X-ray burst as a part of our regular eclipse timing observations of the lowmass binary system EXO 0748 676. The burst peak flux was 5:2 ; 10 8 ergs cm s , approximately 5 times the normal peak X-ray burst flux observed from this source by RXTE. Spectral fits to the data strongly suggest that photospheric radius expansion occurred during the burst. In this pa...

XMM-Newton light curves of the low-mass X-ray binary EXO 0748–676: dips, eclipses, and bursts

We present an analysis of XMM–Newton light curves of the dipping, bursting, and eclipsing low-mass Xray binary EXO 0748–676, focusing on the variability on time scales of seconds to hours. The observed variability can be roughly divided in three types: dips, eclipses and bursts. We find that the appearance of the latter two, depends strongly on the strength of the first. We show that the absorp...

X-Ray Eclipse Timing in the LMXB EXO0748-676

Orbital period changes are an important diagnostic for understanding low mass X-ray binary (LMXB) accretioninduced angular momentum exchange and overall system evolution. We present our most recent results for the eclipse timing of the LMXB EXO 0748−676. Since its discovery in 1985 it has apparently undergone three distinct orbital period “epochs", each characterized by a different orbital peri...

The Quiescent Optical and Infrared Counterpart to Exo 0748–676 = Uy Vol

We present optical and infrared photometry of the low-mass X-ray binary EXO 0748–676 in quiescence for the first time in 24 years since it became X-ray active in 1985. We find the counterpart at average magnitudes of R = 22.4 and J = 21.3. We monitored the source approximately nightly through 2008 November to 2009 January. During this time there was considerable night-to-night optical variabili...
