چکیده

Result: A 63-year-old man presented with a 2-year history of a subcutaneous nodule in his back. MRI showed that a 20 × 15 cm well-circumscribed tumor was located beneath the latissimus dorsi muscle with high signal intensities on both T1and T2weighted images and signal attenuation on fat suppression sequences. Inside the tumor, there were multiple thickened septa with gadolinium enhancement, which was consistent with atypical lipomatous tumor. However, we diagnosed this case as a lipoma with fat necrosis from the findings of an incisional biopsy and enucleation of the tumor was performed.

Pleomorphic lipoma lacking mature fat component in extensive myxoid stroma: a great diagnostic challenge

UNLABELLED Pleomorphic lipoma is a relatively uncommon entity, and is considered as a variant of spindle cell lipoma. Histologically, spindle cell lipoma/pleomorphic lipoma consists of varying quantity of mature fat, bland spindle cells and ropey collagen. In addition, pleomorphic lipoma is characterized by multinucleate giant cells, which possess the "floret-like" nuclei and marked pleomorphis...

An atypical lipomatous tumor mimicking a giant fibrovascular polyp of the hypopharynx

RATIONALE Giant fibrovascular polyps (GFVPs) found in the hypopharynx are exceedingly rare. These are benign tumors which are identified by CT or MRI and usually treated based on symptoms. Even more rarely, pathology may identify one of these masses as an atypical lipomatous tumor (ALT). This paper will present a case of an ALT of the hypopharynx that was originally classified as a GFVP, highli...

Posttraumatic Pseudolipoma (Fat Necrosis) Mimicking Atypical Lipoma or Liposarcoma on MRI

We report a case of a 53 year old female who presented with a painless mass over her left greater trochanter. Evaluation with MRI and ultimately biopsy led to a diagnosis of fat necrosis. If this diagnosis had been considered with greater confidence, a conservative approach could have been taken and biopsy avoided. In patients with lesions demonstrating classic locations and imaging features of...

Huge Sequestered Spinal Disc Mimicking Spinal Intradural Tumor

Background and Importance: Disk sequestration can be defined as a herniated disk with perforation of the fibrous ring (or outermost annulus fibrosus) and posterior longitudinal ligament with migration of the disk fragment to the epidural space. Even after the introduction of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), it is still frequently misinterpreted as neoplastic masses. U...

A comparison between histopathology and findings on magnetic resonance imaging of subcutaneous lipomatous soft-tissue tumors

OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively analyse the magnetic resonance (MR) findings of subcutaneous lipomatous soft-tissue tumours (SLSTT) in order to define a diagnostic and therapeutic strategy. METHODS: The MR findings of 46 SLSTT were registered for the following data: area, location within the subcutaneous compartment, dimensions, shape and delineation, signal intensity (SI) on different pulse seq...
