چکیده

Chickens inoculated with a transplantable lymphoid tumor developed a progressive anemia that was classified morpho logically as normochromic and normocytic. The bone marrow showed normal cellularity with no evidence of tumor metastasis, and immature erythrocytes were not detected in the peripheral blood. (Increased serum transferrin was corre lated with a decline in both packed cell volume and hemoglobin concentration, as well as with time postinoculation.) A positive relationship was observed between the degree of tumor growth, the reduction in both packed cell volume and hemoglobin, and the increase in serum transferrin. The direct Coombs' test on erythrocytes from tumor-bearing and

revealed little or no hemosiderin in the tumor or bone marrow but revealed moderate to marked increases in the amount of hemosiderin in the spleen and liver of most of the chickens that were inoculated with tumor. Lymphoid tumor-bearing chickens developed a progressive hypoferremia, and there was a precipitous drop in the packed cell volume. An increase occurred in both serum iron-binding capac...

The Propagation of Filtrable Agents Producing Lymphoid Tumors And Osteopetrosis by Serial Passage in Chickens

Although numerous experiments have shown that erythroand myeloid leukosis may be transmit ted by a filtrable agent (14), only a few reports have suggested tha t lymphomatosis may be transmit ted by a similar agent. By the use of filtrates of strain 2, Fur th (9) produced what was thought to be a rare type of lymphomatosis. I t was characterized by the appearance, in the blood and many organs, o...

A Filtrable Agent Producing Lymphoid Osteopetrosis in Chickens

Lymphoid tumors of the chicken have been shown to be readily transplantable by the use of viable cells. Pentimalli (29) and Olson (25, 27) have described the isolation of such strains from what was thought (28) were rare cases of neoplasia, but which had all the characteristics of the condition designated by Feldman and Olson (9) as lymphocytoma. Burmester and Prickett (7) reported the developm...

The influence of choline on the transplantation of a lymphoid tumor (RPL-12) into chicks.

The phospholipid content of tumor tissue has been found to be relatively high (1, 6, 9). Haven (4) presented evidence that the choline-containing phospholipid, lecithin, had a higher rate of turn over than the noncholine-containing cephalin. This finding has led to a number of investigations on the effect of dietary choline on tumor develop ment. Thus, Copeland and Salmon (3) reported that a di...

Induction of micronuclei in a transplantable murine tumor after multimodality treatment with cis-platin, radiation and hyperthermia

Background: Tumor response after multimodality treatment using combination of radiation, chemotherapeutic drugs and hyperthermia usually assessed by parameters such as tumor growth delay, volume doubling time and regression response. The study herein was conducted to investigate the usefulness of micronucleus assay for assessing the multimodality treatment. Materials and Methods: The ...
