Hypertension and excretion of 1-Oxygenated steroids.

چکیده
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia with failure of 11-hydroxylation (Eberlein and Bongiovanni, 1956) produces virilization and hypertension. The newborn girl reported here was originally thought to have this condition, but investigations revealed an abnormal steroid excretion of a type not previously described. In retrospect it was realized that the type of abnormal steroid which she produced had been found once before in a child (Case 2) who had hypertension ofunknown cause.

The C19-mineralocorticoids in hypertension.
The excretion rates of the C19-mineralcorticoids, 16beta-hydroxy-DHEA and 16-oxo-androstenediol, were measured in subjects with low-renin essential hypertension and toxemia of pregnancy. C19-mineralocorticoid excretion in low-renin essential hypertension ranged from 70-790 microgram per day. No significant difference in 16beta-hydroxy-DHEA and 16-oxo-androstenediol excretion was found between t...

Urinary kallikrein excretion was measured by a radiochemical esterolytic assay in patients with essential hypertension or primary aldosteronism. Patients with essential hypertension excreted significantly less (P < 0.001) kallikrein than did normal subjects when they were allowed an ad libitum sodium intake or given 259 mEq sodium/day. When sodium intake was changed from ad libitum to 9 mEq/day...
متن کاملThe plasma cortisol response to ACTH in "idiopathic hirsutism.
The biochemical abnormalities in patients with "idiopathic hirsutism" are imperfectly understood. The fractionation and measurement of urinary 17ketosteroids in these patients have been studied in several laboratories. It appears that this disorder is associated with increased production of an adrenal androgen which is reflected by increased excretion of urinary C1902 17-ketosteroids, in partic...
متن کاملThe effect of cortisone upon protein synthesis.
For some time, it has been known that the injection of adrenal cortex extracts or adrenal steroids containing oxygen substitutions at the Cn position augments the excretion of nitrogen in the urine of animals either fasting or feeding normally. Similar injections into adrenalectomized or hypophysectomized animals also raise the fasting nitrogen excretion above normal (l-3). On the contrary, the...
