چکیده

We describe calstis2, the calstis calibration module which combines CRSPLIT and repeated exposures to produce a single, cosmic ray rejected image. Cosmic ray rejection in the STIS pipeline employs a noise model and parameterized rejection criteria to identify and exclude discrepant values in forming the output image. The calstis pipeline is able to perform this cosmic ray rejection because the individually commanded exposures are associated together into a single dataset by TRANS and generic conversion. The functionality of calstis2 is also available as a host-level application and as a task in STSDAS to allow users to re-perform the cosmic ray rejection outside the pipeline with different input parameters. This document updates and supersedes STIS ISR 96-18, and describes the functionality that was implemented for calstis V1.7.

Cosmic Ray Rejection in STIS CCD Images

We describe the method of noise model-based cosmic ray (CR) rejection in multiple, registered images, and discuss its implementation in the context of the STIS calibration pipeline. We focus on the method by which the various contributions to the uncertainty in the final, calibrated image should be combined. Unfortunately, the current design of the CR rejection module, calstis2, makes it diffic...

The STScI STIS Pipeline V: Cosmic Ray Rejection

In this ISR we describe calstis-2, the calstis calibration module which combines CRSPLIT exposures to produce a single cosmic ray rejected image. Cosmic ray rejection in the STIS pipeline will follow the same basic philosophy as does the STSDAS task crrej a series of separate CRSPLIT exposures are combined to produce a single summed image, where discrepant (different by some number of sigma fro...

Associations of NICMOS and STIS Exposures: an extension of the HST data processing pipeline

Both of the Science Instruments scheduled for installation into HST during the Second Servicing Mission pose new expectations and requirements on the processing and archiving of their data. In this ISR we discuss a central aspect of the data handling for the NICMOS and STIS SIs -the association of exposures. The association concept permits the use of multiple exposures in combination to produce...

Improving on the NICMOS Calibration Pipeline Products

We describe a variety of operations which can be carried out using IRAF software to improve upon the quality of the calibrated data when a variety of problems are present in it. The problems covered include such diverse topics as the pedestal, problems with Cosmic Ray rejection, problems with saturated or non-linear pixels, and multiple coronagraphic holes appearing in images.

Calstis6: Extraction of 1-D Spectra in the STIS Calibration Pipeline

This report updates and extends the discussion of STIS ISR 97-02 on the extraction of 1-D spectra performed by calstis6 in the STIS calibration pipeline. Calstis6 processes flatfielded, 2-D science images to produce one-dimensional spectra using an unweighted extraction algorithm. The resultant fluxand wavelength-calibrated spectra are stored in 3-D binary tables.
