Data-based Mechanistic Modelling of a Snow Affected Basin

چکیده
A precipitation-temperature-flow model is developed to compute flow from raw precipitation records, taking into consideration snow-melt contribution to the flow. The model does not require other measurements than flow, temperature and raw precipitation, thus resulting particularly useful in all those situations, the majority, where these are the only observed data. A Data-Based Mechanistic (DBM) modelling approach is used in order to keep at a minimum all the a-priori assumptions on the physical mechanism driving the flow formation process. The model has been applied on a classical set of data (the Jakulsa river basin, Iceland) which is well known in the non-linear modellers community. Copyright c ©2005 IFAC

Mapping of Snow Cover and Glaciers with High Resolution Remote Sensing Data for Improved Runoff Modelling
The study presents investigations of the runoff from snow and ice, carried out in the high alpine basin of the Rhône river at Sion (3371 km2, 491 -4634 m a.s.l.). Using satellite remote sensing data, features like the snow coverage in the whole basin, the gradually decreasing snow coverage on glaciers and the area of exposed ice have been mapped. The periodical monitoring of the basin is based ...
متن کاملSnow satellite images for calibration of snow dynamic in a continuous distributed hydrological model
Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract The snow accumulation and melt processes are well known to play an important role on the river flow regime, in particular this is enhanced for basin with complex topography where the snow dynamic is strongly affected by hillslope expositio...
متن کاملAdvances in Remote Sensing of Snow and Ice for Modelling the Runoff Process
Satellite monitoring of the seasonal snow cover in the visible range of the spectrum has been constantly improved thanks to a better spatial resolution. Sensors were introduced enabling snow, clouds and glacier ice to be distinguished. Thanks to refined data processing combined with a Geographic Information System (GIS), a method was developed to restore satellite images of the snow cover parti...
متن کاملPrecision snow cover and glacier mapping for runoff modelling in a high alpine basin
The runoff regime of high alpine basins will be affected in response to global warming not only by the seasonal snow cover but also by glaciers. Runoff peaks due to snowmelt will partially be shifted from the summer to the winter. The glacier melt will supply a higher amount of meltwater until glaciers finally disappear, if the temperature keeps rising. In order to evaluate quantitatively this ...
متن کاملAggregated and distributed modelling of snow cover for a high-latitude basin
A distributed land-surface model is used to simulate the seasonal cycle of snow cover for a high-latitude basin. In comparison with the distributed model, a simulation using surface parameters and meteorological data averaged over the entire basin overestimates the peak snow accumulation and underestimates the duration of snow cover. Dividing the basin into a small number of elevation bands and...
