A Vlasov description of the Euler equation

چکیده

A form of the Euler equation using an impulse formulation is presented. This form is based on a representation of the divergence-free projection operator in terms of a continuous distribution of vortex dipoles which have a finite self-induced velocity. A generalization of the Euler equation is presented as a kinetic equation similar to the Vlasov–Poisson equation. An interesting feature of this generalization of the Euler equation is that it has nontrivial solutions in one space dimension. The stability of the spatially homogeneous solution is also studied. Distribution functions with a single maximum are found to be linearly stable, whereas those with two maxima can be unstable and the initial value problem ill-posed. Weak solutions of this kinetic equation are found using a water-bag model and a simple model of inviscid 1D turbulence is developed. AMS classification scheme numbers: 76C99, 76E99

From Vlasov–Poisson and Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker–Planck Systems to Incompressible Euler Equations: the case with finite charge

We study the asymptotic regime of strong electric fields that leads from the Vlasov–Poisson system to the Incompressible Euler equations. We also deal with the Vlasov–Poisson–Fokker– Planck system which induces dissipative effects. The originality consists in considering a situation with a finite total charge confined by a strong external field. In turn, the limiting equation is set in a bounde...

Binary Fluids with Long Range Segregating Interaction. I: Derivation of Kinetic and Hydrodynamic Equations

We study the evolution of a two component fluid consisting of ``blue'' and ``red'' particles which interact via strong short range (hard core) and weak long range pair potentials. At low temperatures the equilibrium state of the system is one in which there are two coexisting phases. Under suitable choices of space-time scalings and system parameters we first obtain (formally) a mesoscopic kine...

A geometric approximation to the Euler equations : the Vlasov-Monge-Ampère system

This paper studies the Vlasov-Monge-Ampère system (VMA), a fully non-linear version of the Vlasov-Poisson system (V P ) where the (real) Monge-Ampère equation det ∂ Ψ ∂xi∂xj = ρ substitutes for the usual Poisson equation. This system can be derived as a geometric approximation of the Euler equations of incompressible fluid mechanics in the spirit of Arnold and Ebin. Global existence of weak sol...

Time-dependent Rescalings and Lyapunov Functionals for the Vlasov-poisson and Euler-poisson Systems, and for Related Models of Kinetic Equations, Uid Dynamics and Quantum Physics

We investigate rescaling transformations for the Vlasov-Poisson and Euler-Poisson systems and derive in the plasma physics case Lyapunov functionals which can be used to analyze dispersion eeects. The method is also used for studying the long time behaviour of the solutions and can be applied to other models in kinetic theory (2-dimensional symmetric Vlasov-Poisson system with an external magne...
