چکیده
This study is to detect the presence of Orientia tsutsugamushi in chiggers and host target organs of scrub typhus such as liver, spleen as well as blood. Nine locations of Peninsular Malaysia were chosen; Slim River, Perak; Janda Baik, Pahang; Seremban, Negeri Sembilan; Hulu Langat, Selangor; Raub, Pahang; Bukit Panchor, Pulau Pinang; Gunung Inas, and Ulu Sedim, Kedah and Setiu, Terengganu. Collection sites included oil palm plantations, rubber estates, secondary forests, housing estates and coastal areas. All samples were processed by a standard method for extraction of DNA, followed by amplification of DNA using nested polymerase chain reactions (PCR) and then visualized by gel electrophoresis. A total of 465 chiggers, Leptotrombidium deliense extracted from 11 species of hosts Callosciurus spp, Leopoldamys sabanus, Maxomys rajah, Maxomys whiteheadi, Niviventor cremoriventori, Rattus rattus, Rattus tanezumi, Rattus tiomanicus, Rhinosciurus laticaudatus, Sundamys muelleri, Tupaia glis and Tupaia minor. All chiggers and animal tissues were found negative with scrub typhus except for a blood sample from a rodent, L. sabanus from Sungai Sedim, Kedah. The finding showed that the prevalence of scrub typhus in Peninsular Malaysia was very low. More study and survey need to be done.

Seroepidemiological Survey of Zoonotic Diseases in Small Mammals with PCR Detection of Orientia tsutsugamushi in Chiggers, Gwangju, Korea
Serosurveillance for zoonotic diseases in small mammals and detection of chiggers, the vector of Orientia tsutsugamushi, were conducted from September 2014 to August 2015 in Gwangju Metropolitan Area. Apodemus agrarius was the most commonly collected small mammals (158; 91.8%), followed by Myodes regulus (8; 4.6%), and Crocidura lasiura (6; 3.5%). The highest seroprevalence of small mammals for...

Orientia tsutsugamushi is the etiological agent of scrub typhus, a mite-borne, febrile illness that occurs in the Asia-Pacific region. We conducted strain characterization of O. tsutsugamushi isolates from chiggers obtained from rodents based the nucleotide sequence of the 56-kDa outer membrane protein gene. Using polymerase chain reaction, a total of 68 DNA sequences of 56-kDa antigen genes we...

To verify the value of eschars for the diagnosis of scrub typhus and to characterize genotypes of Orientia tsutsugamushi in patients, we examined eschars and blood specimens of 7 patients from Shandong Province, People's Republic of China, for O. tsutsugamushi by polymerase chain reaction targeting the Sta56 gene. All 7 eschars and acute-phase blood samples were positive, while no specific DNA ...

Thirteen different laboratory colonies of Leptotrombidim chiggers [L. chiangraiensis Tanskul & Linthicum, L. deliense Walch and L. imphalum (Vercammen-Grandjean &Langston)] were evaluated for their ability to transmit Orientia tsutsugamushi (Hyashi) to mice. Of 4,372 transmission attempts using individual chiggers from all 13 colonies, 75% (n = 3,275) successfully infected mice. Transmission ra...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of Orientia tsutsugamushi from rodents captured following a scrub typhus outbreak at a military training base, Bothong district, Chonburi province, central Thailand.
Orientia tsutsugamushi, an obligate intracellular Gram-negative bacterium, is the causative agent of scrub typhus, a vector-borne disease transmitted by infected chiggers (trombiculid mite larvae). In 2002, an outbreak of scrub typhus occurred among Royal Thai Army troops during the annual field training at a military base in Bothong district, Chonburi province, central Thailand. This report de...
