Intertemporal Substitution and Storable Products
نویسندگان
چکیده
Storable products allow consumers to time their purchases to exploit price fluctuations. It has been documented that during promotions consumers buy more. The additional purchases are potentially intended not only for current use, but to be stockpiled for future consumption. This paper discusses the predictions of a consumer inventory model and reviews the available evidence. We then discuss the implications for demand estimation and present estimates of (JEL: LO, L4, Dl, D4) the economic magnitude of the dynamic effect of storability.

Investigation on Habit Formation, Risk Aversion and Intertemporal Substitution in Consumption of Iranian Households by GMM Approach
Consumption is the principal feature of Iranâs Gross National Production. Therefore, recognizing of factors that influence it is quite crucial. This article, investigates habit formation, durability, relative risk aversion and intertemporal substitution in consumption expenditures of Iranian households. For empirical study, at first, we constructed two weighted portfolio of the main assets re...
متن کاملElasticity of Intertemporal Substitution: An Investigation in Iran
We[1] present estimates of the Elasticity of Intertemporal Substitution (EIS) for Iranian households using synthetic cohort panels based on household micro-data. Results show significant difference with the common values used in Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) models which are originally based on estimated values for developed countries. We show that this difference has important ...
متن کاملStorable good monopoly: the role of commitment1
We study dynamic monopoly pricing of storable goods in an environment where demand changes over time. The literature on durables has focused on incentives to delay purchases. Our analysis focuses on a different intertemporal demand incentive. The key force on the consumer side is advance purchases or stockpiling. In the case of storable goods the stockpiling motive has been documented in recent...
متن کاملIntertemporal Price Discrimination in Storable Goods Markets
We study intertemporal price discrimination when consumers can store for future consumption needs. To make the problem tractable we o¤er a simple model of demand dynamics, which we estimate using market level data. Optimal pricing involves temporary price reductions that enable sellers to discriminate between price sensitive consumers, who anticipate purchases for future consumption, and less p...
متن کاملConsumption-Based Asset Pricing with Recursive Utility
In this paper it has been attempted to investigate the capability of the consumption-based capital asset pricing model (CCAPM), using the general method of moment (GMM), with regard to the Epstien-zin recursive preferences model for Iran's capital market. Generally speaking, recursive utility permits disentangling of the two psychologically separate concepts of risk aversion and elasticity of i...
