چکیده

The backward direction Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm (a backward SOVA) is compared with the conventional SOVA (a forward SOVA) in turbo code decoding. We find noticeable performance improvement for the backward SOVA when it is not terminated, which turns out to be due to a smaller reliability value, indicating that the termination conditions of the turbo encoder strongly affect the performance of the backward SOVA decoder. We also propose a hardware efficient serially mixed SOVA decoder composed of a forward SOVA decoder and a backward SOVA decoder. Simulation results show that the proposed serially mixed SOVA decoder has a 0.2 dB coding gain at 2.0 dB Eb/No over the forward SOVA for a typical turbo code example. key words: turbo, SOVA, decoder, backward, bidirectional

Performance of Iterative Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm (SOVA) Decoder on Turbo Coding under Fading Channel

Classical turbo coding base on Parallel Concatenated Convolutional Code has been used for forward error correcting (FEC). From some research reports [1,2,3,5] this technique show new hope to get the coding technique at near Shanon limitation. This paper explains how SOVA decoder works on classical turbo coding. Performance analysis of SOVA decoder is observed by measure the number of bit error ...

Performance of Turbo Codes Using Code Generator [13, 15] and [31, 17] in AWGN and Fading Channel

Turbo coding is a very powerful error correction technique that has made a tremendous impact on channel coding in the last few years. They are recommended for increased capacity at higher transmission rates due to their superior performance over conventional codes. Turbo codes use any one of the decoding algorithms, Maximum a posteriori Probability (log MAP), Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm (SOVA...

Performance of Turbo Code for UMTS in AWGN channel

This paper deals with “Turbo codes”. The turbo code encoder is built using a parallel concatenation of two RSC codes and associated decoder is SOVA. Simulation carried out for different BER, iterations, constraint lengths and frame sizes (FS) to show performance properties of turbo codes in AWGN channel and using binary shift keying modulation. .

Unbalanced Power Allocation for Turbo Coded Psam and Pilot Assisted Sova Decoder

In communication systems, channel coding is widely employed in order to have reliable data transmissions. Turbo codes were first introduced by C.Berrou in 1993 [I] as a powerful channel coding technique, and were shown to achieve performance near Shannon capacity over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. In this thesis, two schemes related to turbo codes are proposed, and are shown ...

Extrinsic information in iterative decoding: a unified view

In this paper, we address the use of the extrinsic information generated by each component decoder in an iterative decoding process. The algorithm proposed by Bahl et al. (BCJR) and the soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) are considered as component decoders. In both cases, we consider, in a unified view, various feedback schemes which use the extrinsic information in different fashions. Numer...
