Radiosensitivity at Specific Autosomal Loci in Mature Sperm and Spermatogonial Cells of Drosophila Melanogaster.

چکیده

HE characteristics of mutational damage recovered from spermatogonial cells Tare important for considerations of genetic risks from radiation. The genetic and cytological types of mutations recovered from spermatogonia determine the chances of genetic damage offered the ensuing populations. To study these characteristics, radiation studies were carried out in Drosophila where well defined genetic and cytological tests are available. The previous study showed a higher mutation rate for mature sperm than for spermatogonia (ALEXANDER 1954). Different total doses were used, and tests for mature sperm given 900r of X-rays were not available to clarify whether sperm rates were significantly higher when calculated from only nonbreakage types. Additional data were obtained for spermatogonial cells treated with 900r, and genetic and cytological data were obtained for mature sperm treated with 900r. Direct comparisons of genetic damage in the two types of cells are made.

Genetic damage at specific gene loci in Drosophila with betatron X-rays.

The mutation rate was determined for mature sperm at eight specific gene loci on the third chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster using the low ion density radiations of 22 Mev betatron X-rays. A dose of 3000 rads of betatron X-rays produced a mutation rate of 4.36 X 10(-8) per rad/locus. Among the mutations observed, 66% were recessive lethals and 34% viable when homozygous. Only one of the 24 ...

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...

Differential Radiosensitivity as an Explanation for So-called Recovery in Drosophila Sperm.

BAKER and VON HALLE (1952, 1953) demonstrated that a higher frequency of dominant lethals was obtained on the first day after X-irradiation of Drosophila melanogaster males than on the second day. This decrease in mutation frequency in second-day sperm samples has been shown to be a general phenomenon in Drosophila. Aconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster

Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system.  Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...
