Network Architectures and Multiple Access for ATM Over Satellite

چکیده
In this paper, we present a TDMA based multiple access technique for ATM over satellite. We consider an scenario where a large number of remote stations are connected to the ATM cloud via satellite. We focus on performance evaluation for CBR, VBR and ABR traffic with markovian analysis and simulation. We calculate equivalent bandwidth for VBR traffic in order to gain statistical multiplexing, we also focus on TDMA efficiency by trying to minimize overhead slots over data slots.

Quality of Service for Broadband Satellite Internet - Atm and Ip Services
The current Internet infrastructure must be architected to handle future media-rich, and content rich applications. The success of applications such as video-on-demand, multicast and content distribution depends on Quality of Service and bandwidth guarantees. Over the years, the Internet has encompassed many changes in traffic profiles and applications, in bandwidths and utilization, but the fu...

This paper proposes a novel dynamic bandwidth assignment multiple access (DBAMA) protocol employing a dynamic packet reservation technique for direct user terminal access to a ATM-based low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications system. Performance analyses by simulations are presented. Methods to efficiently integrate ATM-based BISDN traffic are considered.
متن کاملSatellite ATM Network Architectural Considerations and TCP/IP Performance
In this paper, we have provided a summary of the design options in Satellite-ATM technology. A satellite ATM network consists of a space segment of satellites connected by inter-satellite crosslinks, and a ground segment of the various ATM networks. A satellite-ATM interface module connects the satellite network to the ATM networks and performs various call and control functions. A network cont...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of a MAC Protocol for ATM over Satellite
In this paper we first give an overview of various proposed MAC schemes for ATM over Satellite and analyse the performance of an Adaptive Random-Reservation Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol which can support all ATM service classes while providing the required Quality of Service (QoS). Our study focuses on parameter optimisation of the multiple access schemes for ATM over a GEO satellite wi...
متن کاملBroadband Satellite Network: TCP/IP Performance Analysis
A number of satellite communication systems have been proposed using geosynchronous (GEO) satellites, as well as low earth orbit (LEO) constellations operating in the Ka-band and above. At these frequencies satellite networks are able to provide broadband services requiring wider bandwidth than the current services at C or Ku-band. As a consequence, some of the new services gaining momentum inc...
