چکیده

We present a model-based method for accurate extraction of pedestrian silhouettes from video sequences. Our approach is based on two assumptions, 1) there is a common appearance to all pedestrians, and 2) each individual looks like him/herself over a short amount of time. These assumptions allow us to learn pedestrian models that encompass both a pedestrian population appearance and the individual appearance variations. Using our models, we are able to produce pedestrian silhouettes that have fewer noise pixels and missing parts. We apply our silhouette extraction approach to the NIST gait data set and show that under the gait recognition task, our model-based sulhouettes result in much higher recognition rates than silhouettes directly extracted from background subtraction, or any non-modelbased smoothing schemes.

Projective Surface Refinement for Free-Viewpoint Video

This paper introduces a novel method of surface refinement for free-viewpoint video of dynamic scenes. Unlike previous approaches, the method presented here uses both visual hull and silhouette contours to constrain refinement of viewdependent depth maps from wide baseline views. A technique for extracting silhouette contours as rims in 3D from the view-dependent visual hull (VDVH) is presented...

Normalized Autobinomial Markov Channels For Pedestrian Detection

This paper brings significant contributions to the field of pedestrian detection by learning probabilistic dependencies and contextual information that draw special attention to the human body characteristics and silhouette shapes and play down other irrelevant features. More precisely, we introduce the NAMC (Normalized Autobinomial Markov Channels) and study the efficiency of different configu...

Learning a Non-Parametric Articulated Pedestrian Represen- tation

The Problem: Modeling highly articulated objects such as people is an extremely difficult problem in computer vision. This work investigates an alternative to the two extremes of using explicit models and using “exemplars.” Rather than fitting an articulated model to a silhouette or treating the silhouettes holistically, this work explains how to derive a sparse basis to represent the observed ...

Pedestrian Gap Acceptance Logit Model in Unsignalized Crosswalks Conflict Zone

Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users. For evaluating and modifying pedestrian safety in unsignalized crosswalks, the first important issue is to identify and explore factors affecting the interaction behavior of pedestrians andvehicles in conflict areas. By analyzing those factors and determining how they affect road user's behavior, we canrepresent the plans and proc...

A Bayesian Approach to Image-Based Visual Hull Reconstruction

We present a Bayesian approach to image-based visual hull reconstruction. The 3-D shape of an object of a known class is represented by sets of silhouette views simultaneously observed from multiple cameras. We show how the use of a class-specific prior in a visual hull reconstruction can reduce the effect of segmentation errors from the silhouette extraction process. In our representation, 3-D...
