چکیده

In an effort to fully exploit CMOS performance, custom design techniques are used extensively in commercial microprocessor design. However, given the complexity of current generation processors and the necessity for manual designer intervention throughout the design process, proving design correctness is a major concern. In this paper we discuss Verity, a formal verification program for symbolically proving the equivalence between a high-level design specification and a MOS transistor-level implementation. Verity applies efficient logic comparison techniques which implicitly exercise the behavior for all possible input patterns. For a given register-transfer level (RTL) system model, which is commonly used in present-day methodologies, Verity validates the transistor implementation with respect to functional simulation and verification performed at the RTL level. ∗Copyright c ⃝1994 International Business Corporation This document has been published in the IBM Journal on Research and Development, January 1995. 1 We begin by formally defining the problem ...

CS 250 VLSI System Design Lecture 6 – Accelerator Projects

Predicting ad click–through rates (CTR) is a massive-scale learning problem that is central to the multi-billion dollar online advertising industry. We present a selection of case studies and topics drawn from recent experiments in the setting of a deployed CTR prediction system. These include improvements in the context of traditional supervised learning based on an FTRL-Proximal online learni...

2010 - 9 - 20 John Wawrzynek and Krste Asanovic ́ with John Lazzaro CS 250 VLSI System Design Lecture 5 – System

A general-purpose 3D-LSI platform technology for a high-capacity stacked memory integrated on a logic device was developed for high-performance, power-efficient, and scalable computing. SMAFTI technology [1-5], featuring an ultra-thin organic interposer with high-density feedthrough conductive vias, was introduced for interconnecting the 3D stacked memory and the logic device. A DRAM-compatible...

High-speed I/O circuits, once used only for PHYs, are now widely used for intra-system signaling as well because of their bandwidth, power, area, and cost advantages. This technology enables chips with over 1 Tb/s of I/O bandwidth today and over 10 Tb/s of bandwidth by 2010 as both signaling rates and number of high-speed I/Os increase with process scaling. Key technologies that ena le this gro...

A Micropower Analog VLSI HMM State Decoder for Wordspotting

We describe the implementation of a hidden Markov model state decoding system, a component for a wordspotting speech recognition system. The key specification for this state decoder design is microwatt power dissipation; this requirement led to a continuoustime, analog circuit implementation. We characterize the operation of a 10-word (81 state) state decoder test chip.

A Programmable System with Quick Reconfiguration

This paper presents a Micro-Sequencer based reconfigurable system. We introduce the concept of Quick Reconfiguration and compare it with existing “full reconfiguration” schemes. In a typical scenario, reconfiguring a system from one application to another does not require a “full” reconfiguration. Instead we can exploit similarities among various applications to save on reconfiguration time. Th...
