The Co2 System in the Mediterranean Sea: a Basin-wide Prespective
نویسندگان
چکیده
During April-May 2011 two cruises (M84/3, RV Meteor, Istambul-Vigo, and EF11, RV Urania, Bari –La Spezia) overdetermined the CO system in the MedSea for the first time. The internal consistency analysis for pH, alkalinity and total inorganic carbon confirmed the use of CO2 constants from Mehrbach et al. (1973) [1] and others [2] and [3]. This analysis reveals some insights about the peculiar physico-chemical characteristics of MedSea waters. Vertical distributions of these properties will be presented and discussed along with property-property plots to characterize the different water masses in the MedSea subbasins. The sensitivity of MedSea waters to CO2 increase will be discussed using the vertical distribution of buffer factors and the saturation state for calcite and aragonite

The CO2 system in the Mediterranean Sea: a basin wide perspective
The Mediterranean Sea (MedSea) is considered a “laboratory basin” being an ocean in miniature, suffering dramatic changes in its oceanographic and biogeochemical conditions derived from natural and anthropogenic forces. Moreover, the MedSea is prone to absorb and store anthropogenic carbon due to the particular CO2 chemistry and the active overturning circulation. Despite this, water column CO2...

Classifying daily climate circulation patterns has always been considered by climatologists. Investigating climate changes such as rainfall and the temperature in a same single time and place suggests that these changes are strongly influenced by atmospheric circulation patterns. Regarding so, climate changes, known as variables here, such as rainfall, temperature, and other related phenomen...
متن کاملHigh anthropogenic carbon content in the eastern Mediterranean
[1] This work presents data of dichlorodifluoromethane (CFC‐12), dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity from a cruise to the Mediterranean Sea during October– November 2001, with the main focus on the CFC‐12 data and on the eastern basin. Using the transit time distribution method, the anthropogenic carbon concentrations in the basin were estimated. Results were cross‐checked with a ba...

This paper provides information on the geographic distributions of two cyprinid species: Hemiculter leucisculus (Basilewsky, 1855) and Alburnus caeruleus Heckel, 1843, in the world and the entire drainage systems in Iran. The new distribution records were taken from Maroon River (Jarrahi River system) and Chardaval River (Karkheh river system), both in Tigris River basin showing wide and narrow...
متن کاملLead and Cadmium Pollution in the Southern Caspian Sea Basin through Liza aurata using the GIS System
The present study aimed to survey heavy and toxic metal pollution (lead and cadmium) in the southern Caspian Sea basin through Liza aurata using geographic information system (GIS). Samples of the gill tissue of adult Liza aurata were taken in 10 stations over the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in spring and fall. Interpolation method, Kennedy density function, Moran test, and Gi* index in ...
