Determination of systemic vascular resistance by a noninvasive technic.

چکیده
SUMMARY Measurement of systemic vascular resistance in man currently requires arterial and venous cannulation, so that cardiac output and mean arterial blood pressure may be simultaneously determined. This report describes a noninvasive technic for determining systemic vascular resistance (SVR.), utilizing an ultrasonic method for cardiac output measurement, and a combination of sphygmomanometry and external carotid pulse tracing analysis for determination of mean arterial blood pressure. SVR0 was measured by this technic in 18 patients and compared with systemic vascular resistance determined by conventional methods at cardiac catheterization (SVR,).

response in cardiac index as displayed in Figure 4, oxygen delivery did improve consistent with the patient’s clinical improvement. Of course, with systemic-to-pulmonary communications, the determination of pulmonary vs systemic blood flow depends upon several factors in addition to pulmonary vascular resistance vs systemic vascular resistance: obligatory shunting, effects of streaming, as well...
متن کاملDetermination of PCR-ELISA Diagnostic Value in Comparison With Classical Methods and PCR to Detect Resistance to Methacillin
Background and Aims: High prevalence of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus isolates (MRSA) as well as the multi-drug resistance in this bacterium causes difficulties in the treatment of infections due to these bacteria. Hence, detection of MRSA isolates by rapid and accurate methods is necessary. PCR-ELISA is an accurate and molecular technique that is used for the detection of several...
متن کاملEffects of endothelin-1 on renal microvasculature measured using quantitative ultrasound.
Renal vascular resistance is an important feature of kidney function and disease. To maintain adequate blood flow, renal vascular resistance varies in response to changes in systemic pressure. Vascular resistance is largely determined by arteriolar diameter, which is regulated by local and systemic factors. We used quantitative ultrasound techniques to follow renal vascular changes in anestheti...

S INCE THE ORIGINAL CLINICAL REPORT of Muller and Dammann in 1952,’ the use of pulmonary artery banding in small infants with congestive heart failure due to large ventricular septal defects has been widely recognized and used as a beneficial, palliative procedure of reasonable risk.2’ Only limited clinical information is available concerning the use of banding in the treatment of other types o...
متن کاملNitric oxide regulates basal systemic and pulmonary vascular resistance in healthy humans.
BACKGROUND The endothelium synthesizes and releases a relaxing factor with the physiochemical properties of nitric oxide (NO). However, the role of endothelium-derived NO in the basal regulation of systemic and pulmonary vascular resistance in humans is not known. Our primary objectives were to determine the effects of inhibiting NO synthesis on blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance a...
