چکیده

The interference phenomenon in non-stationary optical fields is investigated. We present a method of describing the interference of partially coherent optical beams by using only observable quantities, expressed entirely as temporal averages of the instantaneous signals, which better relates the experimental observations to the coherence properties of the field. We show that this method of description allows, even through a simple experimental method, to obtain a quantitative measure of the degree of optical coherence. In order to do so, we simulate the results of an interference experiment in which the optical field is non-stationary, recorded by means of the revolving disk method. In our analysis, we take into consideration all the aspects of the detection process, including the sensitivity of the photographic film upon which the intensity of the optical field is recorded. Graphical representations of the simulated experimental results are presented for all relevant cases.

In this research we measure some of the optical parameters of Barium Titanate crystal (BaTiO3), such as signal beam gain, coupling constant (exponential gain coefficient), change in index refraction and photorefractive sensitivity, which are very significant for optical data storage. In all experiment, two- wave mixing configuration at 632.8 nm (He- Ne laser) were used. Experimental data f...

Measuring the deposited energy from a non-ionizing laser beam in water by digital holographic interferometry

Digital Holographic interferometry is a powerful and widely used optical technique for accurate measurement of variations in physical quantities such as density, refractive index, and etc. In this study, an experimental digital holographic interferometry setup was designed and used to measure the amount of energy changes induced by absorption of radiation from a non-ionizing infrared laser beam...

There are several techniques in use for non-linear refractive index measurement, namely, interferometric techniques, in which conventional inter-ferometers are used, degenerate for wave mixing (DFWM), and z-scan, Each of these techniques suffers from some shortcmings. For example conventional interferometers like Fabry-Perot and Twyman-Green need high quality optical components, unwanted refl...

Active control on high-order coherence and statistic characterization on random phase fluctuation of two classical point sources

Young's double-slit or two-beam interference is of fundamental importance to understand various interference effects, in which the stationary phase difference between two beams plays the key role in the first-order coherence. Different from the case of first-order coherence, in the high-order optical coherence the statistic behavior of the optical phase will play the key role. In this article, ...

Coherence versus interferometric resolution

Coherence is a key concept in optics derived from the statistical nature of real light beams [1–3]. Coherence is usually understood as the principal requisite for good quality interference fringes. In this work we show from a quantum metrological perspective that this is not always the case, so that optimum interference and second-order coherence may become antithetical. More specifically, we f...
