Surface Layer Analysis after Shot Peening by Barkhausen Noise Signal

چکیده
In the paper there will be introduced method for relative determination of induced kinetic energy of hardened balls on treated surface, which was invented by J. Alemen. In our experimental work we were focused on measuring Barkhausen noise signals and comparison with microstructure, microhardness, and residual stress analysis of surface roughness. In process of shot peening there is occurrence of compressive residual stresses. The shot peening process was performed under four different pressures (4, 6, 8 and 10 bar) and in two different acting times (t1 = 30 sek and t2 = 60 sek). Residual stresses in surface layer were determinated with nondestructive micromagnetic method on the basis of magnetic Barkhausen noise. Comparsion of residual stresses was also determinated by semi-destructive method known as blind hole-drilling method.

It is well known that shot-peer&g treatment increases the fatigue resistance of metals. It is considered that this effect is caused by compressive residual stresses arising in the treated surface. Usually the mean value of residual stress is taken into consideration to explain this phenomenon but the real residual stress state must be inhomogeneous due to the inhomogeneous character of deformat...
متن کاملSide Effects of Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Initiation Life
Shot peening beneficial effects on fatigue life of mechanical components are well known. However, there are some reports in the literature that indicate inappropriate shot peening parameters tend to reduce the fatigue life. It is therefore, the purpose of this study to find a logical quantitative justification for these observations. Using finite element method, a dynamic elastic-plastic simula...
متن کاملStudy and Simulation of Shot peening Effect on Fatigue Life of a Powder Forged Connecting rod
Shot peening applies a residual compressive stress field (RCSF) on the surface of parts. It also shifts “crack nucleation sites” to sub-surface locations. A nondestructive method of measuring the stresses, Sin2ψ was utilized here and the stress values introduced to Ansys software. For this purpose, uniform stress in all directions was applied on the con rod. Loading on the rod in Ansys had thre...

To improve the fatigue life of metallic components, especially in aerospace industry, shot peening is widely used. There is a demand for the advancement of numerical algorithms and methodologies for the estimation of residual stresses due to shot peening. This paper describes an analytical model to simulate the shot peening process and to estimate the residual stress field in the surface layer....

Shot peening is a process where compressive residual stresses are generated at the surface of the processed part by impacting small hard particles to the surface in order to increase the fatigue resistance of the part. In this work, a general literature survey of shot peening process is presented. Survey is mainly focused on mechanics and numerical simulation of the process. Effects of various ...
