چکیده

Starch acetates of degree of substitution 0.1–1.5 were prepared by heating corn starch, acetic acid and acetic anhydride in sealed, stirred, teflon vessels in a microwave reactor. Reaction efficiencies were typically O90% at reaction temperatures of 150–160 8C for 4–7 min. Starch acetates prepared by reaction at 160 8C to DS values of 0.4–0.9 wereO90% soluble in room temperature water. Acetylation rates and water solubilities decreased in the order waxyOnormalOhigh amylose starch. Significant reduction in molecular weights of the starches occurred during microwave reactions. Acetylation occurred preferentially at the C6 position (70%) based on 13C NMR results. Acetylation at lower temperatures (120 8C) gave starches of DS 0.2–0.3 which were water insoluble but highly swellable. These starches retained their native crystallinity, implying that acetate substitution was a block pattern. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Surface properties of water soluble maltodextrin, starch acetates and starch acetates/alkenylsuccinates

Surface and interfacial tensions with hexadecane were measured for water soluble maltodextrin and starch ester solutions in order to determine heir potential as stabilizers or emulsifiers. The surface tension for an acid hydrolysed starch (maltodextrin) initially declined with concentration nd then reached an equilibrium value of 56 mN/m at 20–40 wt.%, suggesting that hydrated starch has this s...

Starch - Polyacrylonitrile Copolymers . Properties of Hydrogels

Gel sheets prepared from high-viscosity aqueous dispersions of hydrolyzed starch-polyacrylonitrile graft copolymers absorb several hundred times their own weight in water. Viscosity of the disperSiOns can be . reduced to low levels by mechanical shear before the films are cast to give solutions which yield water'soluble .films. These soluble films can be readily cross-linked to again form highl...

The Effects of Lactose, Microcrystalline Cellulose and Dicalcium Phosphate on Swelling and Erosion of Compressed HPMC Matrix Tablets: Texture Analyzer

This paper reviews the use of texture analysis in studying the performance of hydrophilic matrices of highly soluble drugs and different types of excipients (i.e. water-soluble, water-insoluble and swellable, and water insoluble and non-swellable). Tablets were prepared by direct compression, and their swelling and erosion in presence of these different excipients were assessed with the help of...

Low Cost Microwave Plasma Generation System – A Power Analysis study

In the study of thin film preparation using a low cost microwave induced plasma method, we have carried out calorimetric power analysis in a microwave oven with different loads. The calorimetric calibration was done with various heating loads like coconut oil, engine oil, fruit juice and water. The power consumption of water was higher when compared to other loads. The results show the comparis...
