Virtual Experiments by Pulse Heating Techniques: Cylindrical Tungsten Specimens
نویسندگان
چکیده
A bi-dimensional geometrical model was developed and numerically solved considering different cylindrical tungsten specimens, heated to temperatures above 3600 Kwith current pulses of about (500, 750, and 950) ms duration. A detailed analysis of these virtual experiments indicated large radial temperature differences in all the investigated cases. The range of validity of the long thin rod approximation was verified for various geometries and under different experimental conditions. The developed model may be used to estimate uncertainties due to the use of this approximation and to optimize experimental conditions in real experiments.

Experimental results and constitutive modelling for tungsten and tantalum at high strain rates and very high temperatures
Recently reported results of the high strain rates, high temperature measurements of the yield stress of tungsten and tantalum have been analyzed. The highest temperature reached in the experiment, based on heating and stressing a thin wire by a fast, high current pulse, was 2250 C and 2450 C, for tantalum and tungsten, respectively. The strain-rates in both the tungsten and tantalum tests were...

متن کاملFull Impact of the SPS Proton Beam With a Solid Cylindrical W Target: Simulations of the Future HiRadMat Facility Experiments
In this contribution we present numerical simulations of full impact of the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) beam with a solid tungsten cylindrical target that is facially irradiated. The beam comprises of 288 bunches and each bunch is made of 1.15 × 10 450 GeV protons. The bunch length is 0.5 ns and two neighboring bunches are separated by 25 ns so that the total duration of the beam is about 7 ...
