چکیده

In an earlier communication, marked changes were reported in the level of nucleic acids during structurally well defined stages in the genesis of crown gall tumors in tomato (9). In view of the distinctive pattern of these changes, it seemed ad visable to extend these studies to other plant tumors to ascertain whether nucleic acid changes were, in fact, concurrent with the process of tumorigenesis and to determine whether they were related to the histological and cytochemical changes that occur in tumor genesis. Furthermore, it was important to determine whether these changes were restricted to tumors or were charac teristic of plant neoplastic growth in general. Broad bean (Vicia f aba, var. English Windsor) was chosen for this study, to compare earlier studies on Agrobacterium tumefaciens tumors in tomato with a different host and pathogen. The bean is not susceptible to A. tumefaciens, but when inoculated with A. rubi does form tumors which are grossly distinct from those formed by tomato and many other hosts (4). Furthermore, bean tissues possess large cells and nuclei which can be studied histochemically.

Plant small nuclear RNAs. V. U4 RNA is present in broad bean plants in the form of sequence variants and is base-paired with U6 RNA.

U4 RNA, which is known to play an indispensable role in pre-mRNA splicing, is present in plant nuclei, has a canonical m3 2,2,7 G cap at its 5' end and is associated with U6 RNA in snRNP particles. It occurs in broad bean in the form of a number of sequence variants. Two of these were sequenced: U4A RNA is 154 and U4B RNA is 152 nucleotides long. Sequence similarity of broad bean U4B RNA is 94 ...

Ribosomal protein S14 genes in broad bean mitochondrial DNA.

Broad bean (Vicia faba) mtDNA contains an open reading frame with a predicted amino acid sequence that is 41% homologous to the ribosomal protein S14 (RPS14) of Escherichia coli, and which is located 1232 ntp upstream from a gene for cytochrome b (cob). A second putative rpS14 gene occurs in broad bean mtDNA, 344 ntp upstream from a gene for ATPase subunit 9 (atp9). However, the atp9-linked rpS...

Purification of the major UsnRNPs from broad bean nuclear extracts and characterization of their protein constituents.

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles containing the five major nucleoplasmic snRNAs U1, U2, U4, U5 and U6 as well as two smaller sized snRNAs were purified from broad bean nuclear extracts by anti-m3G, monoclonal antibody, immunoaffinity chromatography. We have so far defined 13 polypeptides of approximate mol. wts. of 11 kd, 11.5 kd, 12.5 kd, 16 kd, 17 kd, 17.5 kd, 18.5 kd, 25 kd (double ...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of broad bean on physical properties of testis and qualitative and quantitative characteristics of epididymal spermatozoa of the ramZell breed. The sixteen sexually matured rams weight approximately 29±1 kg were selected and randomly divided into four treatments and four replicates in a completely randomized design. The treatments included: 1) co...

An appropriate method to determine the interaction type of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV)

The occurrence of viral co-infection is a common phenomenon in cultivated and native plant species and can alter the dynamics of virus infection. In this study, disease progress was examined in single and mixed infections of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) by measuring the rate of symptom development, disease severity and area under disease progress curve on infe...
