Neonatal citrobacter meningitis.

چکیده
The genus Citrobacter has long been recognized as a saprophyte in the alimentary tract of man (Wilson and Miles, 1964), but its role as a pathogen has been questioned. It is frequently cultured together with other organisms in mixed growths from wounds, urines, and sputa from adults, when it is usually an unimportant saprophyte. We present evidence showing that this organism can be pathogenic, especially in the neonate, so that its potential pathogenicity should be remembered if it is isolated from a neonatal unit.

Neonatal citrobacter meningitis: neurosonographic observations.
Meningitis caused by gram-negative enteric bacteria usually is limited in children to the neonatal period. Among neonates, the disease is severe, with a mortality of up to 80%. The most common etiologic agent in this type of meningitis is Escherichia coli. Meningitis due to Citrobacter diversus has occurred in sporadic small outbreaks throughout the United States. This devastating disease frequ...
متن کاملFulminant citrobacter meningitis with multiple periventricular abscesses in a three-month-old infant.
Citrobacter, a Gram-negative enteric bacillus, is a rare cause of septicemia and meningitis, seldom reported beyond the neonatal period. It is characterized by a fulminant clinical course and a high incidence of complications, including brain abscesses. We studied a three-month-old infant with Citrobacter meningitis, who developed acute communicating hydrocephalus and multiple periventricular b...
متن کاملNeonatal meningitis caused by Citrobacter koseri.
Three cases of neonatal meningitis, two of which were fatal, occurred in a premature baby unit during a period of one week. A fourth case occurred in the same unit six months later. Citrobacter koseri was isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid of all four cases. Detailed biochemical and serological examination of the organisms showed that two distinct bioserotypes were involved.
متن کاملNeonatal Citrobacter koseri Meningitis: Report of Four Cases
Citrobacter koseri is a rare cause of neonatal meningitis with predisposal for brain abscesses, and therefore responsible for high mortality and serious neurologic sequelae in this age group. We present the evolution and outcome of four cases of C. koseri meningitis. One of them developed brain abscesses and another one died. The cases show the bacteria's propensity for serious brain damage, de...
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of Citrobacter freundii Myophage Michonne
Citrobacter freundii is a Gram-negative opportunistic pathogen that causes dangerous infections such as neonatal meningitis. C. freundii also harbors antibiotic resistance, making phages infecting this host valuable tools. Here, we announce the complete genome of the C. freundii FelixO1-like myophage Michonne and describe its notable features.
