چکیده

The localized corrosion behavior of laser surface melted 304L austenitic stainless steel was studied by potentiodynamic polarization test. The extent of improvement in corrosion resistance was governed by the preferred orientation and the percentage of delta ferrite present on the surface of the laser melted sample. It was established by orientation imaging microscopy that the highest pitting potential value was obtained when grains were oriented in the most closepacked [101] direction compared to the random distribution of the base metal and other laser surface melted samples oriented in [001] direction. The sample with lower percentage of ferrite had good pitting resistance. Keywords—Crystallographic orientation, Ferrite percentage, Laser melting, Pitting corrosion, 304L SS.

A Corrosion Study of Grain-Refined 304L Stainless Steels Produced by the Martensitic Process

AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel with different grain sizes of 0.5 -12 μm was obtained through the martensitic process. Corrosion behavior of different samples was investigated in a 0.5M HCl solution using open circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. Also, the correlation between the grain size and pitting corrosion resistance was as...

Effect of welding parameters on pitting corrosion rate of pulsed current micro plasma arc welded AISI 304L sheets in 1N HCl

Austenitic stainless steel sheets have gained wide acceptance in the fabrication of components, which require high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance such as metal bellows used in expansion joints in aircraft, aerospace and petroleum industries. In the case of single pass welding of thinner sections of this alloy, Pulsed Current Micro Plasma Arc Welding (PCMPAW) has been found bene...

The Inhibition Effect of Polyethylenimine (PEI) on Pitting Corrosion of 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel in 3.5% NaCl Solution

One of the problems in the case of stainless steels is their low corrosion resistance against pitting corrosion in chloride containing environments, thereby leading to severe damage to industries. In this research, the pitting corrosion of 304 austenitic stainless steel was studied in 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature (25˚C) by performing electrochemical measurements (containing cyclic pol...
