Sensitivity of Calibration to Principal Point Position

چکیده
A common practice when carrying out self-calibration of a camera from one or more views is to start with a guess at the principal point. The general belief is that inaccuracies in the estimation of the principal point do not have a significant effect on the other calibration parameters. It is the purpose of this paper to refute that belief. Indeed, it is demonstrated that the determination of the focal length of the camera is tied up very closely with the estimate of the principal point. Small changes in the estimated (sometimes merely guessed) principal point can cause very large changes in the estimated focal length. In fact, the relative uncertainty in the focal length is inversely proportional to the distance of the principal point to the epipolar line. This analysis is geometric and exact, rather than experimental.

Self-calibration algorithm under varying cameras using the linear projective reconstruction method
We present a practical self-calibration algorithm that only requires a linear projective reconstruction. Recently, many self-calibration algorithms that use only the information in the image have been proposed. But most algorithms require bundle adjustments in the projective reconstruction or in the nonlinear minimization. We overcome the sensitivity of the self-calibration algorithms due to th...
متن کاملThe Principal Point and Ccd Cameras
The principal point has long been regarded as one of the fundamental parameters in camera calibration. In the age of film based aerial and large format terrestrial cameras’ the principal point could be located by a variety of techniques with a certainty of +/10 μm (Carman & Brown, 1961) and this was considered sufficient. However, aerial cameras were precision, purpose built, expensive pieces o...

متن کاملEffect of Calibration Error on Reconstruction Accuracy of Stereovision System
Abstract: This paper investigates the relation between the calibration error and reconstruction accuracy of stereovision system through simulation experiment. According to the model of a typical non-parallel stereovision system, an array of points in the common view field of the two cameras is projected onto the image plane of the left and right camera respectively, forming the left image and r...
متن کاملA parametric model for predicting cut point of hydraulic classifiers
A new parametric model was developed for predicting cut point of hydraulic classifiers. The model directly uses operating parameters including pulp flowrate, feed particle size characteristics, pulp solids content, solid density and particles retention time in the classification chamber and also covers uncontrollable errors using calibration constants. The model applicability was first verified...
