A Histogram-Based Quality Model for HTTP Adaptive Streaming
نویسندگان
چکیده
HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) has become a popular solution for multimedia delivery nowadays. Because of throughput variations, video quality fluctuates during a streaming session. Therefore, a main challenge in HAS is how to evaluate the overall video quality of a session. In this paper, we explore the impacts of quality values and quality variations in HAS. We propose to use the histogram of segment quality values and the histogram of quality gradients in a session to model the overall video quality. Subjective test results show that the proposed model has very high prediction performance for different videos. Especially, the proposed model provides insights into the influence factors of the overall quality, thus leading to suggestions to improve the quality of streaming video. key words: video quality model, adaptive streaming, subjective test, histogram

Modeling live adaptive streaming over HTTP
Video streaming methods have evolved greatly over the years. Today, the most prevalent technique to stream live and video on-demand is the adaptive HTTP streaming and is used by several commercial vendors. In this paper, we pesent an approximate analytic model for live adaptive streaming over HTTP. Using this model, we propose a new rate control algorithm that makes the rate transitions less fr...
متن کاملModeling the Time-varying Subjective Quality of HTTP Video Streams with Rate Adaptations
Newly developed hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)-based video streaming technologies enable flexible rate-adaptation under varying channel conditions. Accurately predicting the users' quality of experience (QoE) for rate-adaptive HTTP video streams is thus critical to achieve efficiency. An important aspect of understanding and modeling QoE is predicting the up-to-the-moment subjective quality...
متن کاملDesign of a Q-Learning-based Client Quality Selection Algorithm for HTTP Adaptive Video Streaming
Over the past decades, the importance of multimedia services such as video streaming has increased considerably. HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) is becoming the de-facto standard for adaptive video streaming services. In HAS, a video is split into multiple segments and encoded at multiple quality levels. State-of-the-art HAS clients employ deterministic heuristics to dynamically adapt the request...
متن کاملLow Latency Adaptive Media Streaming on PRRT
Adaptive media streaming is an emerging technology that improves Internet multimedia by dynamically adjusting the video quality. However, state-of-the-art solutions in adaptive media streaming such as Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) are based on HTTP/TCP and require large receiver buffers in the order of tens of seconds to achieve continuous video streaming at the receivers. To over...
متن کاملA priority-based adaptive scheme for multi-view live streaming over HTTP
Adaptive streaming over Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP) has been widely used for the transmission of video content. Most of the existing studies about HTTP adaptive streaming (HAS) concentrate on improving resource efficiency, fairness among users, and quality of service for single-source videos. However, there is a growing number of live streaming applications, such as video-casts of cours...
