چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Amyloid plaques are one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Iron component in the immediate vicinity of amyloid plaques has been shown in animal studies of AD and acts as a source of reactive oxygen species for oxidative damage [1,2]. In addition, an interest of microstructural hippocampal imaging has emerged in recent years [3]. Any imaging technique capable of directly visualizing amyloid plaques and fine hippocampal structures is critical for early and accurate diagnosis of AD. This work is to evaluate imaging parameters on 7T MR using SWI without MRI contrast agent to better identify the histopathologic correlate of amyloid plaques containing iron and otherwise invisible subhippocampal structures of human post-mortem brain in patients with AD.

Stanford Medicine Iron Seen in Brain Immune Cells of Alzheimer's Disease Patients Antioxidants Help Treat Skin-picking Disorder in Mice, Researcher Says Cellular Damage Seen after Ct Scanning

Examining postmortem brain tissue from Alzheimer’s disease patients, School of Medicine investigators identified what appear to be iron-containing microglia — specialized scavenger cells that sometimes become inflammatory — in a particular part of the hippocampus, a key brain structure whose integrity is critical to memory formation. In postmortem brain tissue from people not diagnosed with Alz...

Detection of Alzheimer\\\\\\\'s Disease using Multitracer Positron Emission Tomography Imaging

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by impaired glucose metabolism and demonstration of amyloid plaques. Individual positron emission tomography tracers may reveal specific signs of pathology that is not readily apparent on inspection of another one. Combination of multitracer positron emission tomography imaging  yields promising results. In this paper, 57 Alzheimer's disease neuroimaging ini...

Human chorionic gonadotropin attenuates amyloid-β plaques induced by streptozotocin in the rat brain by affecting cytochrome c-ir neuron density

Objective(s): Amyloid β plaques, in Alzheimer’s disease, are deposits in different areas of the brain such as prefrontal cortex, molecular layer of the cerebellum, and the hippocampal formation. Amyloid β aggregates lead to the release of cytochrome c and finally neuronal cell death in brain tissue. hCG has critical roles in brain development, neuron differentiation, and function. Therefore, we...

Comparison of Two Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Measurement Methods Used For Anatomical Localization of the Iron-Incorporated Deep Brain Nuclei

Introduction Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) is a new contrast mechanism in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The images produced by the QSM enable researchers and clinicians to easily localize specific structures of the brain, such as deep brain nuclei. These nuclei are targets in many clinical applications and therefore their easy localization is a must. In this study, we aimed to i...

Increased Detectability of Alzheimer Plaques at 7T vs. 3T using High Resolution bSSFP

Introduction: β-amyloid plaques are thought to have an important role in the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Amyloid plaques are detectable at high-field as small hypointense regions in animal models [1] and ex vivo in human specimens [2], though in the latter case, clear separation of plaques from blood vessels remains an ongoing challenge. The underlying cause of the ...
