Graphics Hardware Accelerated Reconstruction of SPECT with a Slat Collimated Strip Detector

چکیده
3D iterative reconstruction of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) acquisitions is a widely used but computationaly intensive process. Reconstructing data from a rotating slat collimated system increases the computation time even further. Since the sensitivity profile of such a camera is not constant over the field of view, it is important to include a system model that is as accurate as possible. We derived a Monte Carlo model of the physics of the measurement process. The advances in programmable graphics hardware make it possible to efficiently model the 3D reconstruction algorithm on consumer grade graphics cards in order to reduce the computation time. This paper describes an implementation of the reconstruction algorithm which is as accurate as the software algorithm while still achieving a 10-fold speed increase over the optimized software version.

Image reconstruction algorithm for a spinning strip CZT SPECT camera with a parallel slat collimator and small pixels.
This paper discusses the use of small pixels in a spinning CdZnTe single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) camera that is mounted with a parallel slat collimator. In a conventional slat collimation configuration, there is a detector pixel between two adjacent collimator slats. In our design, the pixel size is halved. That is, there are two smaller pixels to replace a regular pixel bet...
متن کاملImage Optimization in Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography by Hardware Modifications with Monte Carlo Simulation
Introduction: In Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), the projection data used for image reconstruction are distorted by several factors, including attenuation and scattering of gamma rays, collimator structure, data acquisition method, organ motion, and washout of radiopharmaceuticals. All these make reconstruction of a quantitative SPECT image very difficult. Simulation of a SP...
متن کاملTomographic image quality of rotating slat versus parallel hole-collimated SPECT.
Parallel and converging hole collimators are most frequently used in nuclear medicine. Less common is the use of rotating slat collimators for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The higher photon collection efficiency, inherent to the geometry of rotating slat collimators, results in much lower noise in the data. However, plane integrals contain spatial information in only one ...
متن کاملFast 3D image reconstruction for rotating slat collimated gamma cameras
As an alternative to the use of traditional parallel hole collimators, SPECT imaging can be performed using rotating slat collimators. A gain in image quality could be expected from the higher photon collection efficiency, however, the plane integral data measured by this type of collimator require a reconstruction to invert the three-dimensional (3D) Radon transform. The use of iterative metho...
متن کاملCollimator-detector response compensation in molecular SPECT reconstruction using STIR framework
Introduction:It is well-recognized that collimator-detector response (CDR) is the main image blurring factor in SPECT. In this research, we compensated the images for CDR in molecular SPECT by using STIR reconstruction framework. Methods: To assess resolution recovery capability of the STIR, a phantom containing five point sources along with a micro Derenzo p...
