Dispersibility and stability improvement of unfunctionalized nanotubes in amide solvents by polymer wrapping
نویسنده
چکیده
Improvement on the stability and loading of unfunctionalized single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in amide solvents is necessary to enhance the performances of SWNT-polymer composites used for optical applications (e.g., as non-linear saturable absorbers). We show that polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) can not only increase the stability of ultrasonically dispersed HiPco SWNTs in pure N-methyl-2pyrrolidone (NMP), but also improve the photoluminescence emission signals from SWNTs even after 1 month of incubation. Compared to two non-ionic surfactants (Igepal DM-970 and Pluronic F-98), we find that PVP-aided SWNT dispersions in NMP can improve the SWNT loading by at least four times. Unlike surfactant-aided dispersions, the PVP-aided dispersions remain completely stable by close visual inspection even after 6 months of incubation. r 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Non-covalent polymer wrapping of carbon nanotubes and the role of wrapped polymers as functional dispersants
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been recognized as a promising material in a wide range of applications from biotechnology to energy-related devices. However, the poor solubility in aqueous and organic solvents hindered the applications of CNTs. As studies have progressed, the methodology for CNT dispersion was established. In this methodology, the key issue is to covalently or non-covalently func...

متن کاملHeavily Fluorinated Electronic Polymers
Building blocks, containing majority fluorine content by weight, for PPEs and PPVs have been synthesized. Some of the monomers were shown to give exclusively fluorous-phase soluble polymers, the syntheses of which were achieved by fluorous biphasic polymerization conditions. Perfluoroalkylated PPEs were found to have excellent fluorescence quantum yields and photophysical and chemical stability...
متن کاملPolymer-Assisted Isolation of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes in Organic Solvents for Optical-Quality Nanotube-Polymer Composites
Dispersions of isolated single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in pure organic solvents can usually be prepared only at low concentrations (∼0.01-0.02 g/L). Here, we use poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as a dispersant for unfunctionalized SWNTs in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and achieve concentrations of up to ∼0.16 g/L. Such dispersions remain stable by visual inspection for at least 1 year after preparation....

Cationic waterborne polyurethane as a new dispersing polymer was synthesized by using relatively hydrophilic polyols. Dispersing cationic polyurethane (DCPU) nanocomposites were prepared using isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different molecular weights (Mn=200, 400, 600,and1000 g/mol), N-methyl diethanolamine (MDEA), dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) and different perc...
