چکیده

Fixed-Field Alternating-Gradient (FFAG) accelerators are being proposed as an alternative to Super-conducting Linacs (SCL), Rapid-Cycling Synchrotrons (RCS) and Cyclotrons for the acceleration of very intense Heavy-Ion and Proton beams in the medium energy range. One application is the acceleration of ions of Uranium-238 to an energy of 400 MeVh, and the average power of 400 kWaq and the other a 1-GeV Proton Driver with an average beam power of 10 W a t t . One or two FFAG rings are needed for acceleration of both beams. They adopt a Non-Scaling Lattice (NSL) to reduce the size and the cost of the accelerator. The continuous wave (CW) mode of operation is achieved with the method of Harmonic Number Jump (IINJ).

Impact of Various Beam Parameters on Lateral Scattering in Proton and Carbon-ion Therapy

Background: In radiation therapy with ion beams, lateral distributions of absorbed dose in the tissue are important. Heavy ion therapy, such as carbon-ion therapy, is a novel technique of high-precision external radiotherapy which has advantages over proton therapy in terms of dose locality and biological effectiveness. Methods: In this study, we used Monte Carlo method-based Geant4 toolkit to s...

The Comparison of the shares of stopping power in a soft tissue-equivalent material

Introduction: Proton therapy is a type of radiation treatment that it uses protons to treat cancer. Because of the protons’ unique ability to distribute the radiation dose more directly to the tumor, it minimizes the damage to nearby healthy tissues. The rate of energy loss by the ion in the target is called stopping power. The total stopping power is sum nuclear and electroni...

Heavy ion driven reactor-size double shell inertial fusion targets

Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) is considered as an alternative to Magnetic Confinement Fusion to achieve controlled thermonuclear fusion. The main goal is to exploit the energy released from thermonuclear fusion reactions to produce electric energy. Heavy ion beams were proposed in 1976 as one of the possible drivers in ICF. The method consists in igniting few milligrams of deuterium-tritium...

Fabrication and Characterization of Proton Conductive Membranes Based on Poly(methyl methacrylate-co-maleic anhydride)

In this study, proton conductive composite membranes were produced by using a poly(methylmethacrylate-co-maleic anhydride) (P(MMA-co-MAH)) copolymer and phosphotungstic Acid (PWA) as an additive of the proton conductive agent. P(MMA/MAH) 70/30, 50/50, and 30/70 were synthesized using a free radical polymerization reaction. PWA with a concentration of 2% was added to...

Evidence for Color Transparency and Direct Hadron Production at RHIC

The QCD color transparency of higher-twist contributions to the inclusive hadroproduction cross section, where the trigger proton is produced directly in a short-distance subprocess, can explain several remarkable features of high-pT proton production in heavy ion collisions which have recently been observed at RHIC: (a) the anomalous increase of the p → π ratio with centrality (b): the more ra...
