Standard neutrino spectrum from 8B decay.

چکیده
We present a systematic evaluation of the shape of the neutrino energy spectrum produced by beta decay of B. We place special emphasis on determining the range of uncertainties permitted by existing laboratory data and theoretical ingredients ~such as forbidden and radiative corrections!. We review and compare the available experimental data on the B(b)Be(2a) decay chain. We analyze the theoretical and experimental uncertainties quantitatively. We give a numerical representation of the best-fit ~standard-model! neutrino spectrum, as well as two extreme deviations from the standard spectrum that represent the total ~experimental and theoretical! effective 63s deviations. Solar neutrino experiments that are currently being developed will be able to measure the shape of the B neutrino spectrum above about 5 MeV. An observed distortion of the B solar neutrino spectrum outside the range given in the present work could be considered as evidence, at an effective significance level greater than three standard deviations, for physics beyond the standard electroweak model. We use the most recent available experimental data on the Gamow-Teller strengths in the A537 system to calculate the B neutrino absorption cross section on chlorine: sCl5(1.1460.11)310 242 cm (63s errors!. The chlorine cross section is also given as a function of the neutrino energy. The B neutrino absorption cross section in gallium is sGa5(2.4621.1 )310242 cm (63s errors!. @S0556-2813~96!01307-6#

The 8 B neutrino spectrum
Knowledge of the energy spectrum of 8B neutrinos is important for interpreting experiments that detect energetic neutrinos from the Sun. The neutrino spectrum deviates from the allowed β-decay approximation because of the broad α-unstable 8Be final state and recoil order corrections. We have measured the total energy of the α particles emitted following the β decay of 8B. The measured α spectru...
متن کاملSearch for the second forbidden β decay of 8 B to the ground state of 8 Be
A significant decay branch of 8B to the ground state of 8Be would extend the solar neutrino spectrum to higher energies than anticipated in the standard solar models. These high-energy neutrinos would affect current neutrino oscillation results and also would be a background to measurements of the hep process. We have measured the delayed α particles from the decay of 8B, with the goal of obser...
متن کاملShape of the 8B alpha and neutrino spectra.
The beta-delayed alpha spectrum from the decay of 8B has been measured with a setup that minimized systematic uncertainties that affected previous measurements. Consequently the deduced neutrino spectrum presents much smaller uncertainties than the previous recommendation [J. N. Bahcall et al., Phys. Rev. C 54, 411 (1996)]. The 8B nu spectrum is found to be harder than previously recommended wi...
متن کاملLi electron spectrum versus B neutrino spectrum: implications for the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
The sensitivity of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) to measure the shape of the recoil electron spectrum in the charged-current reaction of 8B solar neutrinos interacting with deuterium can be improved if the results of a 8Li beta-decay calibration experiment are included in the test. We calculate an improvement in sensitivity, under certain idealistic assumptions, of about a factor of 2,...
متن کاملPrecise determination of the unperturbed 8B neutrino spectrum.
A measurement of the final state distribution of the (8)B β decay, obtained by implanting a (8)B beam in a double-sided silicon strip detector, is reported here. The present spectrum is consistent with a recent independent precise measurement performed by our collaboration at the IGISOL facility, Jyväskylä [O. S. Kirsebom et al., Phys. Rev. C 83, 065802 (2011)]. It shows discrepancies with prev...
