A review of “ Reasoning About Rational Agents ”

چکیده
Reasoning About Rational Agents is concerned with developing practical reasoning (as contrasted with theoretical reasoning) for rational computer agents within the “Belief, Desire, Intention” model. The BDI model for computer agents is based on the theory of rational action in humans put forward in 1988 by the philosopher M. Bratman in his book Intention, Plans and Practical Reason. BDI logics are multi-modal logics developed by Rao and Georgeff during the 1990s. Wooldridge's version of BDI logic, which extends the work of Rao and Georgeff, is called LORA for “Logic of Rational Agents”. Wooldridge is concerned with the problem of writing a book that is both accessible and rigorous. The result is a book whose first three chapters can be easily read by anyone with a modest background in logic. However, Chapter 4 assumes a discontinuously higher expectation in the reader’s knowledge. Chapters 6 through 9 presuppose some knowledge in the field of agency. After the introductory chapter one, Wooldrige divides the book into three parts: (part 1) chapter 2 provides background material on the BDI model while chapter 3 gives an introduction to LORA; (part 2) chapter 4 provides the formal syntax and semantics for LORA while chapter 5 covers some properties of rational agents; (part 3) investigates the use of LORA in multi-agent social systems.

Modelling Rational Agents in Multi-Agent Systems
This extended abstract gives an overview about my current and future research as well as a summary of my PhD thesis. The thesis is about rational agents in multi-agent systems where the main focus is on formal methods that allow for modelling and reasoning about such systems and its comprised agents. Several aspects of rational agency are treated, for instance, rational agents’ behaviors, coali...
متن کاملA Logical Theory of Static Reasoning for Rational Agents
A formal language to describe mental states of rational agents is useful to specify the behavior of artiicial agents that are supposed to act intelligently and to help human beings in evaluating their reasoning about the external environment. This paper presents a multi-agent, propositional, temporal logic to describe the mental state of rational agents. The formal properties of beliefs and int...
متن کاملExpression of Behaviors in Assistant Agents as Influences on Rational Execution of Plans
Assistant Agents help ordinary people about computer tasks, in many ways, thanks to their rational reasoning capabilities about the current model of the world. However they face strong acceptability issues because of the lack of naturalness in their interaction with users. A promising approach is to provide Assistant Agents with a personality model and allow them to achieve behavioral reasoning...
متن کاملPreference Handling for Belief-Based Rational Decisions
We present an approach to preferences suitable for agents that base decisions on their beliefs. In our work, agents’ preferences are perceived as a consequence of their beliefs, but at the same time are used to feed the knowledge base with beliefs about preferences. As a result, agents can reason with preferences to hypothesize, explain decisions, and review preferences in face of new informati...
متن کاملReasoning about Emotional Agents
In this paper we discuss the role of emotions in artificial agent design, and the use of logic in reasoning about the emotional or affective states an agent can reside in. We do so by extending the KARO framework for reasoning about rational agents appropriately. In particular we formalize in this framework how emotions are related to the action monitoring capabilities of an agent.
