چکیده

2014 We measured compressibility and splay elastic moduli, and the mobility of dislocations of the lamellar phase of C12E5-H2O system. The compressibility modulus has a usual value (2.5 x 107 dyn/cm2) while the splay modulus is small (6 x 10-8 dyn) and the mobility is high (6 x 10-7 cm2 sg-1). These results are used to calculate the permeation coefficient. These values are then discussed with respect to the presence of defects, revealed by former studies [11]. J. Investigation of Vacancy Defects on the Young’s Modulus of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Composites in Axial Direction via a Multiscale Modeling Approach

In this article, the influence of various vacancy defects on the Young’s modulus of carbon nanotube (CNT) - reinforcement polymer composite in the axial direction is investigated via a structural model in ANSYS software. Their high strength can be affected by the presence of defects in the nanotubes used as reinforcements in practical nanocomposites. Molecular structural mechanics (MSM)/finite ...

Diffusion coefficients in a lamellar lyotropic phase: evidence for defects connecting the surfactant structure

We measure diffusion coefficients in the lamellar phase of the nonionic binary system C(12)EO(6)/H(2)O using fluorescence recovery after photobleaching. The diffusion coefficient across the lamellae shows an abrupt increase upon approaching the lamellar-isotropic phase transition. We interpret this feature in terms of defects connecting the surfactant structure. An estimation of the defect dens...

Structural and Thermomechanical Investigation of Lyotropic Liquid Crystal Phases Doped with Monodisperse Microparticles

We present a study of the structural and thermomechanical properties of lyotropic phase in the quasi ternary system made of Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPCl)/hexanol/salt water (0.9 % by mass) with and without cobalt microparticles. Phase transition temperatures of the structural sequence isotropic L 1/nematic calamitic Nc ,/hexagonal H have been determined by differential scanning microcalorimet...

Chiral Lyotropic Liquid Crystals: TGB Phases and Helicoidal Structures

The molecules in lyotropic membranes are typically aligned with the surface normal. When these molecules are chiral, there is a tendency for the molecular direction to twist. These competing effects can reach a compromise by producing helicoidal defects in the membranes. Unlike thermotropic smectics, the centers of these defects are hollow and thus their energy cost comes from the line energy o...

Spotlight on Biomimetic Systems Based on Lyotropic Liquid Crystal.

The behavior of lyotropic biomimetic systems in drug delivery was reviewed. These behaviors are influenced by drug properties, the initial water content, type of lyotropic liquid crystals (LLC), swell ability, drug loading rate, the presence of ions with higher or less kosmotropic or chaotropic force, and the electrostatic interaction between the drug and the lipid bilayers. The in vivo interac...
