چکیده
We study the chemodynamical evolution of elliptical galaxies and their X-ray and optical properties using high-resolution cosmological simulations. Our Tree N-body/SPH code includes a self-consistent treatment of radiative cooling, star formation, supernovae feedback, and chemical enrichment. We present a series of ΛCDM cosmological simulations which trace the spatial and temporal evolution of abundances of heavy elements in both the stellar and gas components of galaxies. A giant elliptical galaxy formed in one of the simulations is quantitatively compared with the observational data in both the X-ray and optical regime. We implement a treatment of both pre-heating and AGN heating in this simulation, and examine the effect of these processes on elliptical galaxy formation. We find that the adopted pre-heating (T = 10 K at z = 4) is not strong enough to explain the observed X-ray or optical properties. On the other hand, our AGN heating model in which the gas inflow induces the AGN heating is consistent with both the X-ray and optical properties.

Cosmic Evolution of Radio Selected Active Galactic Nuclei in the Cosmos Field
We explore the cosmic evolution of radio AGN with low radio powers (L1.4GHz . 5× 10 25 W Hz) out to z = 1.3 using to-date the largest sample of ∼ 600 low luminosity radio AGN at intermediate redshift drawn from the VLA-COSMOS survey. We derive the radio luminosity function for these AGN, and its evolution with cosmic time assuming two extreme cases: i) pure luminosity and ii) pure density evolu...
متن کاملSelf-Regulated AGN Heating in Elliptical Galaxies
We study the effect of active galactic nuclei (AGN) heating on the chemodynamical evolution of elliptical galaxies and their X-ray and optical properties using highresolution Λ-dominated cold dark matter cosmological simulations. Our model considers an AGN as being “active” when a convergent gas inflow condition exists within a galaxy’s nucleus; otherwise, the AGN is assumed to remain dormant. ...
متن کاملAGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies
We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...
متن کاملGravitational Heating Helps Make Massive Galaxies Red and Dead
We study the thermal formation history of four simulated galaxies that were shown in Naab et al. (2007) to reproduce a number of observed properties of elliptical galaxies. The temperature of the gas in the galaxies is steadily increasing with decreasing redshift, although much of the gas has a cooling time shorter than the Hubble time. The gas is being heated and kept hot by gravitational heat...
متن کاملA Radio View of the Sky: the Cosmic History of Star-Forming and AGN Galaxies
We explore the cosmic evolution of radio detected star forming (SF) galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGN), drawn from the VLA-COSMOS survey, out to z = 1.3. We present the 20 cm radio luminosity function for these populations, and find that SF galaxies evolve much more rapidly than low-power radio AGN. Our results imply that weak radio AGN (L1.4GHz . 5×1025 WHz) occur in the most massive ga...
