The Sahara is the greatest of the world's waste lands which is being opened up as a major tourist attraction, and it is now possible to travel overland from the Mediterranean to the Bight of Benin by public transport during a four week vacation.' Although many publications are available to advise the prospective traveller to the tropics in general, little information is available on medical care during desert crossings in particular.
