Measuring Electron Response in NaI(Tl) using Compton Coincidence Technique

چکیده

The scintillation efficiency of electron recoils in liquid xenon (LXe) is not well measured at low energies. The Compton coincidence technique (CCT) is set up using a NaI(Tl) detector and HPGe detector to measure the energy dependence of the light yield in the NaI(Tl) detector from which we can extract the scintillation effieciency. This technique allows for the detection of low energy electron recoils and the non-proportional response of the material. Eventually the material will be replaced with LXe to measure both the electron recoil and nuclear recoil response as a function of deposited energy. This will aid in the distinction between electron and nuclear recoil interactions with LXe as well as improving our understanding of the mechanisms of energy deposition in LXe.

Compton Suppression System with Simplified Slow Anti-Coincidence Circuit

Slow coincidence circuits for the anti-coincidence measurements have been considered for use in Compton suppression technique. The simplified version of the slow circuit has been found to be fast enough, satisfactory and allows an easy system setup, particularly with the advantage of the automatic threshold setting of the low level discrimination. A well-type NaI detector as the main detector s...

Design and Modeling of a Compton-suppressed Phoswich Detector for Radioxenon Monitoring

By measuring the concentration of four xenon radioisotopes in the atmosphere, the International Monitoring System (IMS) can verify nuclear weapons tests around the world. To measure ultra-low concentrations of radioxenons, many detection systems, such as the Automated Radioxenon Sampler and Analyzer (ARSA) and the Swedish Automatic Unit for Noble gas Acquisition (SAUNA), have been developed and...

STANDARDIZATION OF Tl-201 RADIOACTIVE SOLUTION

The standardization of Tl, using the 4π(PC)-NaI(Tl) coincidence system, is presented. The disintegration rate was determined by the extrapolation technique, using two methods: electronic discrimination and external absorbers. A Monte Carlo simulation program, developed in our laboratory, which predicts the behavior of the extrapolation curve, was applied and the results were compared with exper...

تعیین عمق اشباع در پراکندگی کامپتون با استفاده از شبکه‌های عصبی مصنوعی

Abstract: The intensity of Compton scattered γ-ray photons provide useful information about the electron density distribution of a test sample. Because of photon attenuation, the application of this method is limited to a certain depth of the sample (saturation depth). The saturation depth value depends on the energy and intensity of primary photons and on the material of the sample. In this...

Digital Pulse Shape Analysis with Phoswich Detectors to Simplify Coincidence Measurements of Radioactive Xenon

The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty establishes a network of monitoring stations to detect radioactive xenon in the atmosphere from nuclear weapons testing. One such monitoring system is the Automated Radioxenon Sampler/Analyzer (ARSA) developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which uses a complex arrangement of separate beta and gamma detectors to detect beta-gamma coincidences...
