Morphology of sternum in patients with Scheuermann's kyphosis: is it different from that of healthy adolescents?

چکیده
Methods 20 SD patients with thoracic kyphosis aged 10 to 18 years were included in this study. 30 healthy volunteers were recruited to serve as controls. Computed tomography 3D reconstruction of the total sternum in supine position was performed. The length, width, thickness of manubrium and mesosternum was measured respectively. Meanwhile, the angle (a) between the axis of manubrium and that of mesosternum were also measured. The size of sternum and angle a were compared between SD patients and normal controls using the Studenst test.

Successful brace treatment of Scheuermann's kyphosis with different angles
BACKGROUND Scheuermann's disease is regarded as the most common cause of structural hyperkyphosis within adolescents without any proper treatment. It may lead to progressive deformity and back pain which influences patient's quality of life during adolescence and adulthood. Treatment approach to Scheuermann's kyphosis has not been clearly defined due to its different definitions and obscure nat...

Materials and methods From 2001 to 2007, eighty-six adolescents were conservatively treated for Scheuermann juvenile kyphosis of thoracic location. Charts of 55 patients, 39 boys and 16 girls, were accessible. The age was from 11 to 18 years, with a mean of 14.6 ± 1.6 years. The location of hyper-kyphosis was middle thoracic in most cases, apart from five patients with a thoraco-lumbar location...

Less common causes include tumor, infection, and sickle cell c...
