چکیده
This paper shows a scheme of urban transport management aimed at solving the externalities due to road trac. In this scheme both private and public transport modes are managed by a planning authority having control of some decision variables: road pricing, transit ticket prices, and the service characteristics of transit. The multimodal transport system is subject to some constraints: physical and environmental capacity constraints, and budget constraints. In some cases an upper bound is imposed on the ticket price, in order to help people who are captive of transit. The planning authority ®xes the level of all user charges and the transit service characteristics, in such a way that the average transport generalized cost is minimized, and at the same time the transport system is in equilibrium and all constraints are satis®ed. A mathematical model of this management scheme is presented, and it is applied to the bimodal network of an Italian town, in order to show the eects that the management policy, and in particular the constraints imposed on the transport system, have on urban transport cost. Among other things the results obtained show, in accordance with the opinion of other authors, that the market of urban public transport is a niche market, whose properties, along with the characteristics of transit systems, are essentially determined by the physical and environmental capacity constraints of the road transport system. # 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. The Multinomial Probit (MNP) formulation provides a very general framework to allow for interdependent alternatives in discrete choice analysis. Up until recently, its use was rather limited, mainly because of the computational diculties associated with the evaluation of the choice probabilities which are multidimensional normal integrals. In recent years, the econometric estimation of Multino...

We consider nonlinear nonconvex capacitated transportation problems where the nonlinearity occurs only in the last row of the transportation tableau. This transportation model can be successfully applied to economics representing the nonlinearity caused by penalties for unsatis®ed contractual quantities or by changing in price. This paper addresses the problem of determining a dynamic berth assignment to ships in the public berth system. While the public berth system may not be suitable for most container ports in major countries, it is desired for higher cost-eectiveness in Japan's ports. The berth allocation to calling ships is a key factor for ecient public berthing. However, it is not calculated in polynomially-...

ÐThe dynamic and stochastic shortest path problem (DSSPP) is de®ned as ®nding the expected shortest path in a trac network where the link travel times are modeled as a continuous-time stochastic process. The objective of this paper is to examine the properties of the problem and to identify a technique that can be used to solve the DSSPP given information that will be available in networks wit...

A reduction method is proposed which allows standard sensitivity techniques for variational inequalities to applied to equilibrium network ̄ow problems without additional assumptions on either the underlying network or the numbers of active paths. In particular it is shown that under mild regularity conditions, small perturbations of equilibria can be given an explicit arc̄ow representation whic...
