چکیده

The research of the last ten years has resulted in the attempts towards single chip CMOS RF circuits for Bluetooth, ISM and DECT applications. An overvieuw of the use of CMOS for low-cost integration of a high-end cellular RF transceiver front-end is presented. Some fundamental pitfalls and limitations of RF CMOS are discussed. To circumvent these obstacles the choice of transceiver architecture, circuit topology design and systematic optimization of the different transceiver blocks is necessary. Moreover, optimization of the transceiver as one single block by minimizing the number of power hungry interface circuits is emphasized. As a result a 2V 0.25μm CMOS transceiver front-end for DCS1800 applications is demonstrated.

Multi-Band Multi-Standard CMOS Receiver Front-Ends for 4G Mobile Applications

The development of the transistor and its continuous down-scaling has allowed during the last decades the appearance of cheap wireless communication systems targeting consumer products. The complexity of these systems has increased dramatically during the last years, mainly fueled by both the Moore law and improvements in communication theory. Originally, the radio transceivers were composed of...

With the advent of small mobile internet devices (MIDs) and a rising consumer demand for multiple simultaneous transmit and receive communication links, the need for highly programmable, low-cost transceiver front-ends that co-exist with other radios on the same platform or die, has increased. For the past decade, CMOS technologies have demonstrated the ability to integrate the entire transceiv...

Loopback BiST for RF Front-Ends in Digital Transceivers

This paper addresses a built-in self-test (BiST) for ICs digital transceivers. The focus is on testing the RF frontend while taking advantage of the on-chip DSP resources and DA-, AD converters. The loopback architecture is used to prevent the sensitive RF blocks from extra noise and external disturbances. The test aims at spot defects typical of RF CMOS ICs, where those faults are deemed the m...

4G will not facilitate the design of cell phones. Compared to today's 3G, future 4G multistandard, multi-band cellular phones have to cover an increasing number of wireless standards. These standards include GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, 3GPP LTE/4G, WIMAX and even MIMO WIMAX AND MIMO LTE/4G at up to 25 frequency bands, and includes connectivity systems like WLAN and Bluetooth, and support navigation syste...
