Serum concentrations of troponin T, creatine kinase and creatine kinase MB isoenzyme were normal. An electrocardiogram (Box 1) showed changes consistent with myocardial ischaemia. When the patient developed haemodynamic instability, cardiac catheterisation was performed (Box 2). The patient’s condition improved after an intra-aortic balloon pump (a catheter-mounted balloon positioned in the descending aorta and timed to inflate during diastole) was n echocardiolar size and

Ampulla Cardiomyopathy (Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy)-- - A Review

Transient left ventricular apical ballooning also known as Takotsubo cadiomyopathy or "broken heart syndrome" has been described by investigators worldwide. There have been several cases reported in Japan's journals between 1990 and 2001. It was first described by Sato et al and Dote et al and was named "Takotsubo" -shaped cardomyopathy due to its unique "short neck round-flask" -like LV apical...

Transient Left Ventricular Apical Ballooning (Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy): Mimicking Acute Coronary Syndrome

Transient left ventricular apical dyskinesia accompanied by chest pain, mimicking acute coronary syndrome, dynamic reversible ST-T segment abnormalities, minimal myocardial enzymes release disproportionate to the extent of dyskinesia,in the absence of obstructive epicardial coronary artery disease is characteristic of transient left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome.1 It was first describe...

Dynamic Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction with Cardiogenic Shock in Apical Ballooning Syndrome.

UNLABELLED Apical ballooning syndrome, also called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, is characterized by transient systolic dysfunction of mid to apical segments and hyperkinesis of basal segments of the left ventricle that mimic acute myocardial infarction without significant coronary artery stenosis. We reported a 51-year-old man with chest distress, hypotension and abnormal electrocardiogram. Echoca...

Midventricular form of takotsubo cardiomyopathy as a recurrence 1 year after typical apical ballooning: a case report

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy was first described in Japan and is characterized by transient left ventricular apical ballooning in the absence of a significant coronary artery disease.Caused by the clinical presentation including chest pain, electrocardiographic changes and elevated myocardial markers this syndrome is frequently misdiagnosed as an acute coronary syndrome. Recurrences of Takotsubo Ca...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Transient Left Ventricular Apical Ballooning Related to Emotional Stress: a Case Report

Transient left ventricular apical ballooning is characterized by transient wall motion abnormalities involving the left ventricular apex and mid-ventricle in the absence of coronary arterial occlusion. A 66-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with chest pain that mimicked acute myocardial infarction. An aortogram showed akinesis from the mid to apical left ventricle with sparin...
