Algorithms for Secretary Problems on Graphs and Hypergraphs

چکیده
We examine several online matching problems, with applications to Internet advertising reservation systems. Consider an edge-weighted bipartite graph G, with partite sets L,R. We develop an 8-competitive algorithm for the following secretary problem: Initially given R, and the size of L, the algorithm receives the vertices of L sequentially, in a random order. When a vertex l ∈ L is seen, all edges incident to l are revealed, together with their weights. The algorithm must immediately either match l to an available vertex of R, or decide that l will remain unmatched. In [4], the authors show a 16-competitive algorithm for the transversal matroid secretary problem, which is the special case with weights on vertices, not edges. (Equivalently, one may assume that for each l ∈ L, the weights on all edges incident to l are identical.) We use a similar algorithm, but simplify and improve the analysis to obtain a better competitive ratio for the more general problem. Perhaps of more interest is the fact that our analysis is easily extended to obtain competitive algorithms for similar problems, such as to find disjoint sets of edges in hypergraphs where edges arrive online. We also introduce secretary problems with adversarially chosen groups. Finally, we give a 2e-competitive algorithm for the secretary problem on graphic matroids, where, with edges appearing online, the goal is to find a maximum-weight acyclic subgraph of a given graph. CATEGORY OF (POM)L-FUZZY GRAPHS AND HYPERGRAPHS
In this note by considering a complete lattice L, we define thenotion of an L-Fuzzy hyperrelation on a given non-empty set X. Then wedefine the concepts of (POM)L-Fuzzy graph, hypergraph and subhypergroupand obtain some related results. In particular we construct the categories ofthe above mentioned notions, and give a (full and faithful) functor form thecategory of (POM)L-Fuzzy subhypergroups ...
متن کاملDistributed Symmetry Breaking in Hypergraphs
Fundamental local symmetry breaking problems such as Maximal Independent Set (MIS) and coloring have been recognized as important by the community, and studied extensively in (standard) graphs. In particular, fast (i.e., logarithmic run time) randomized algorithms are well-established for MIS and ∆ + 1-coloring in both the LOCAL and CONGEST distributed computing models. On the other hand, compa...
متن کاملCartesian product of hypergraphs: properties and algorithms
Cartesian products of graphs have been studied extensively since the 1960s. They make it possible to decrease the algorithmic complexity of problems by using the factorization of the product. Hypergraphs were introduced as a generalization of graphs and the definition of Cartesian products extends naturally to them. In this paper, we give new properties and algorithms concerning coloring aspect...

متن کاملApproximation Algorithms for Independent Set Problems on Hypergraphs
This thesis deals with approximation algorithms for the Maximum Independent Set and the Minimum Hitting Set problems on hypergraphs. As a hypergraph is a generalization of a graph, the question is whether the best known approximations on graphs can be extended to hypergraphs. We consider greedy, local search and partitioning algorithms. We introduce a general technique, called shrinkage reducti...
