Anti-anginal drugs

چکیده
This review of studies on anti-anginal agents and their use in the anginal syndrome shows nitroglycerin to be unsurpassed in clinical effectiveness. It has a rapid onset of action. Its duration of action is relatively short but the need for a more prolonged effect has not been demonstrated. Most anginal attacks subside upon resting and the requirement for relief is immediate rather than prolonged. A long-acting antianginal agent would have some value if it could prevent precipitation of an anginal episode but there is no convincing evidence to indicate that these drugs have this capability. In general, clinical experience with long-acting nitrites is relatively unsatisfactory.

Effect of Effect of Drugs Concurrent Disease
The measure of an anti-anginal agent is its ability to decrease chest pain. Because of the subjective character of pain, extreme care is necessary in choosing patients upon whom anti-anginal medication is to be tested. We have used the double-blind technic and an initial control period to neutralize the many extraneous mental and physical factors, such as bias or the patient-physician relations...
متن کاملImpact of reference-based pricing of nitrates on the use and costs of anti-anginal drugs.
BACKGROUND Reference-based pricing limits reimbursement for a group of drugs that are deemed therapeutically equivalent to the cost of the lowest-priced product within that group. We estimated the effect of reference-based pricing of nitrate drugs used for long-term prophylaxis on prescribing of and expenditures on nitrates and other anti-anginal drugs dispensed to senior citizens in British Co...
متن کاملClinical Evaluation of Anti-anginal Drugs with Particular Reference to Benziodarone, a New Coronary Vasodilator.
ALTHOUGH many long-acting coronary vasodilators have been introduced for the prophylactic treatment of angina pectoris few have survived a controlled objective study in which the main criterion of effectiveness is an improvement in the degree of myocardial ischoemia and not solely an alteration in the frequency or severity of anginal attacks. A new coronary vasodilator, benziodarone (Cardivix),...

Over the last 20 years, it has emerged that, while surgical revascularisation of extensive ischaemic heart disease may have prognostic advantages, the main issues considered regarding individual management are usually those of symptomatic improvement only. The major impetus towards invasive intervention is therefore failure of prophylactic anti-anginal therapy. On the other hand, many patients,...
