Dial-controlled hash: reducing path oscillation in multipath networks
نویسنده
چکیده
In a multipath network with a naive traffic partitioning scheme, varied packet loss rates as well as varied delays on multiple paths could seriously reduce TCP bandwidth. We propose a scheme, called dial-controlled hash (DCH), for dynamically partitioning traffic flows across multiple paths. DCH allows for fine-grained load balance, minimizes path oscillation for each traffic flow, and does not require per-flow state maintenance or packet tagging. We evaluate DCH in two simulated networks, a parallel link topology and a corporate intranet with trace-based traffic generation. In both simulations, we compare the proposed scheme to a number of alternatives. DCH reduces path oscillation by a factor of 1.6-37 and improves TCP bandwidth by up to 66%, compared to alternatives. Our simulation results also suggest that, without a good flow partitioning scheme, there is a limit on how much one can save by using lowquality networks in combination with high-quality ones.

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
متن کاملM-DART: multi-path dynamic address routing
The paper proposes a Distributed Hash Table (DHT)-based multi-path routing protocol for scalable ad hoc networks. Specifically, we propose a multipath-based improvement to a recently proposed DHT-based shortest-path routing protocol, namely the Dynamic Address RouTing (DART). The resulting protocol, referred to as multi-path DART (M-DART), guarantees multi-path forwarding without introducing an...

Troubleshooting large operational networks is extremely difficult due to the extensive usage of multipath routing. We present NetSonar, a system that localizes performance problems in such networks. Earlier techniques are either white box (assuming compl...
متن کاملEvaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures
Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...

In recent years, routing has been the most focused area in ad hoc networks research. On-demand routing in particular, is widely developed in bandwidth constrained mobile wireless ad hoc networks because of its effectiveness and efficiency. Most proposed on-demand routing protocols are built and relied on single route for each data session. Whenever there is a link disconnection on the active ro...
