چکیده

This paper presents a consistency control protocol destined for groups of cooperative processes located worldwide. We assume that processes cooperate by sharing a replicated object. We consider processes with well-known profiles; however, the actual behaviour of each process could diverge from the profile. The protocol aims at offering a good quality of service to cooperative processes, while guaranteeing replicated object consistency in the presence of disconnections and network partitions. We are interested in the bounded consistency condition: the divergence between each replica and the “real object” remains smaller than a fixed bound during the lifetime of the application. We decompose this consistency condition into a set of local criteria concerning the effects of unexpected operations initiated by each process. We then associate with each process a consistency manager that enforces this process local consistency criterium. To experiment with this protocol, we developed a highly available allocation service relying on it. The experimental results confirm that this approach provides a high degree of autonomy to each replica, especially when the actual behaviour of that replica conforms to the profile.

Replica Divergence Control Protocol Based on Predicted Profile

The Divergence Control Protocol Based on Predicted Profile allows cooperative processes deployed on a weaklyconnected environment to conciliate the offering of low response time to clients with the guarantee of a bounded consistency, despite characteristics of the underlying communication infrastructure. Modeling replica divergence in a weak-consistency protocol for global-scale distributed data bases

Distributed database systems for wide-area networks must scale to very large numbers of replicas in order to provide acceptable availability and response time. Weak-consistency replication protocols, such as the timestamped anti-entropy (TSAE) protocol we have developed, allow a database to scale to hundreds or thousands of replicas. The TSAE protocol allows updates to be processed by a single ...

An Efficient Data Replication Strategy in Large-Scale Data Grid Environments Based on Availability and Popularity

The data grid technology, which uses the scale of the Internet to solve storage limitation for the huge amount of data, has become one of the hot research topics. Recently, data replication strategies have been widely employed in distributed environment to copy frequently accessed data in suitable sites. The primary purposes are shortening distance of file transmission and achieving files from ...

High Availability with Diagonal Replication in 2D Mesh (DR2M) Protocol for Grid Environment

Replication is a useful technique for distributed database systems and has been implemented in EU data grid and HEP in CERN for handling huge data access. Replica selection in their prototypes still can be enhanced to provide high availability, fault tolerant and low in communication cost. This paper introduces a new replica control protocol, named Diagonal Replication in 2D Mesh (DR2M) for gri...
