Performance Evaluation of Handoff Parameters in Mobile Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Handoff is an essential component of mobile cellular system. Mobility causes dynamic variations in link quality and interference levels in cellular system. There are so many advantages of using soft handoff than hard handoff. So, in order to reap the benefits of soft handoff it is necessary that the handoff parameters will be set well. There are several performance indicators to evaluate the system, namely Ec/Io the link quality indicator, Tc the carried traffic which is a good resource allocation indicator. The tradeoffs and parameter settings have been mostly in the form of simulation. In this work the quantitative tradeoffs that are interference vs. capacity and call drop probability vs. offered traffic in hard and soft handoffs are investigated. It has also been shown that by implementing the macroscopic diversity using Maximal Ratio Combining technique, Drop Call Rate will be reduced effectively in the boundary conditions.

Performance evaluation of the post-registration method, a low latency handoff in MIPv4
In this paper we evaluate a low latency handoff protocol for MIPv4, the Post-Registration handoff method. This mechanism proposed by the IETF tries to improve the performance of Hierarchical Mobile IP by decreasing the handoff latency. We give a detailed description of the protocol behavior by means of an ns simulation and propose a simple queuing model to study the influence of various paramet...

We describe the design, implementation and evaluation of a programmable architecture for profiling, composing and deploying handoff services. We argue that future wireless access networks should be built on a foundation of open programmable networking allowing for the dynamic deployment of new mobile and wireless services. Customizing handoff control and mobility management in this manner calls...
متن کاملThe Effect of Handoff Dwell Time on the Mobile Network Performance
In this paper, we have studied the impact of the handoff dwell time (HDT) on the channel holding time (CHT) modeling and examined how it affects the mobile network performance evaluation. Realistic mobility model is constructed that includes the effect of HDT and we derive the important relationship between the critical parameters such as cell residence time (CRT), call holding time, CHT and HD...
متن کاملCell Dwell Time and Channel Holding Time Relationship in Mobile Cellular Networks
Channel holding time (CHT) is of paramount importance for the analysis and performance evaluation of mobile cellular networks. This time variable allows one to derive other key system parameters such as channel occupancy time, new call blocking probability, and handoff call dropping probability. CHT depends on cellular shape, cell size, user’s mobility patterns, used handoff scheme, and traffic...

a process of transferring a mobile station (MS) from one base station (BS) or channel to another. The channel change due to handoff may be through a time slot, frequency band, codeword, or combination of these for time-division multiple access (TDMA), frequency division multiple access (FDMA), code-division multiple access (CDMA), or a hybrid scheme, respectively [1]. This article includes four...
