چکیده
The demand for access to the Internet by mobile users is increasing. Recent emergence of low-cost wireless appliances made it possible to surf the Internet with handheld devices. One of the competing technologies is the use of WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) phones. However, due to limited processing and memory capacity, small display and inefficient input mechanism, it is a challenge to serve Web contents to cellular phone. This paper introduces the architecture of the WAP technology, discusses the disadvantages and advantages of cellular phones as a Web browser, suggests the types of web services suitable for mobile users, and investigates the methods for converting HTML pages to WAP pages and efficient ways of maintaining a WAP site that servers diverse and incompatible WAP browsers.
