چکیده
In this review of cardiovascular risk estimation, we focus on 4 key aspects: (1) The rationale for estimating cardiovascular risk; (2) a comparison of current cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk-estimation systems; (3) an examination of whether there is any evidence that cardiovascular risk estimation improves patient outcomes; and (4) how CVD risk estimation may change in the future. Some of the material presented is derived from a recent general review of cardiovascular risk scores1 that we have used to underpin the present, more focused discussion.

متن کاملDiversity, Inclusive Leadership, and Health Outcomes
In this time of polarization and divisiveness across increasingly diverse communities, health policy and management research offers an important insight: engaging diversity meaningfully through inclusive leadership—that embraces staff across hierarchies and engages difference perspectives so that all healthcare workers of all kinds feel they can speak up and participate...
متن کاملCardiovascular Risk Assessment and Management in Developing Countries
Causes of the burgeoning cardiovascular epidemic in developing countries (DC) are known. Whilst there are many prevention strategies and policies demonstrated to be effective in reducing the trends of cardiovascular disease in developed countries, applying them in DCs is challenging and complex. To utilize resources efficiently, two key decisions have to be made by policy makers in all DCs. The...
متن کاملC-reactive protein and cholesterol are equally strong predictors of cardiovascular risk and both are important for quality clinical care.
Physicians do not measure biomarkers simply to predict risk. Rather, they do so to better target therapy and improve the lives of their patients. Thus, when considering the use of any biomarker for cardiovascular risk prediction in primary prevention, thoughtful clinicians, and those writing guidelines should insist that two fundamental questions be answered affirmatively. First, is there clear...
