چکیده

1. Introduction In this paper we generalize the parallelized lambda method for computing invariants in real qua-dratic function elds. A basic such invariant is the regulator, which plays an important role in cryptosystems based on real quadratic function elds. For example, in the key-exchange protocol by Scheidler, Stein and Williams SSW96], the regulator provides a measure for the key space; moreover, computation of the regulator is an instance of solving the discrete logarithm problem in real quadratic function elds. Pollard's lambda method Pol78], also called the method of catching kangaroos, was originally developed to compute discrete logarithms in Z=pZand has been canonically generalized to solve the discrete logarithm problem in any nite abelian group. The key ingredient for the lambda method is that we know that the discrete logarithm lies in a given interval a; b; then the expected running time is O(p b ? a) group operations. Van Oorschot and Wiener vOW99] have shown that

Which Countries are Catching up? New Evidences Using Flexible Fourier Stationary Test

In this paper, we tested the catching-up hypothesis toward the USA using Becker et al. (2006) flexible Fourier KPSS stationary test over the period 1960-2009. The mentioned test could control for unknown number and form of structural breaks using a selected frequency component of a Fourier function. Our results show almost poor countries stay poor and almost rich countries stay rich. South Kore...

Reopening the Convergence Debate when Sharp Breaks and Smooth Shifts Wed, 1870-2010

Abstract This paper attempts to re-investigate the catching-up (stochastic convergence) hypothesis among the selected 16 OECD countries applying the time series approach of convergence hypothesis with annual data over one century. To reach this aim, we propose a model which specifies a trend function, incorporating both types of structural breaks – that is, sharp breaks and smooth shifts usin...

Thermoregulation by kangaroos from mesic and arid habitats: influence of temperature on routes of heat loss in eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) and red kangaroos (Macropus rufus).

We examined thermoregulation in red kangaroos (Macropus rufus) from deserts and in eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) from mesic forests/woodlands. Desert kangaroos have complex evaporative heat loss mechanisms, but the relative importance of these mechanisms is unclear. Little is known of the abilities of grey kangaroos. Our detailed study of these kangaroos' thermoregulatory response...

Functional morphology of the forelimb of living and extinct tree-kangaroos (Marsupialia: Macropodidae).

Tree-kangaroos are a unique group of arboreal marsupials that evolved from terrestrial ancestors. The recent discovery of well-preserved specimens of extinct tree-kangaroo species (genus Bohra) within Pleistocene cave deposits of south-central Australia provides a unique opportunity to examine adaptive evolution of tree-kangaroos. Here, we provide the first detailed description of the functiona...
