چکیده

We provide a systematic study on the possibility of supersymmetry (SUSY) for one dimensional quantum mechanical systems consisting of a pair of lines R or intervals [−l, l] each having a point singularity. We consider the most general singularities and walls (boundaries) at x = ±l admitted quantum mechanically, using a U(2) family of parameters to specify one singularity and similarly a U(1) family of parameters to specify one wall. With these parameter freedoms, we find that for a certain subfamily the line systems acquire an N = 1 SUSY which can be enhanced to N = 4 if the parameters are further tuned, and that these SUSY are generically broken except for a special case. The interval systems, on the other hand, can accommodate N = 2 or N = 4 SUSY, broken or unbroken, and exhibit a rich variety of (degenerate) spectra. Our SUSY systems include the familiar SUSY systems with the Dirac δ(x)-potential, and hence are extensions of the known SUSY quantum mechanics to those with general point singularities and walls. The self-adjointness of the supercharge in relation to the self-adjointness of the Hamiltonian is also discussed. † email: [email protected]

Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics with a Point Singularity

We study the possibility of supersymmetry (SUSY) in quantum mechanics in one dimension under the presence of a point singularity. The system considered is the free particle on a line R or on the interval [−l, l] where the point singularity lies at x = 0. In one dimension, the singularity is known to admit a U(2) family of different connection conditions which include as a special case the famil...

Non-supersymmetric cousins of supersymmetric gauge theories: quantum space of parameters and double scaling limits

I point out that standard two dimensional, asymptotically free, non-linear sigma models, supplemented with terms giving a mass to the would-be Goldstone bosons, share many properties with four dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories, and are tractable even in the non-supersymmetric cases. The space of mass parameters gets quantum corrections analogous to what was found on the moduli space of ...

Supersymmetric quantum mechanics based on higher excited states

We generalize the formalism and the techniques of the supersymmetric (susy) quantum mechanics to the cases where the superpotential is generated/defined by higher excited eigenstates. The generalization is technically almost straightforward but physically quite nontrivial since it yields an infinity of new classes of susy-partner potentials, whose spectra are exactly identical except for the lo...

Singularities of N = 1 Supersymmetric Gauge Theory and Matrix Models

In N = 1 supersymmetric U(N) gauge theory with adjoint matter Φ and polynomial tree-level superpotential W (Φ), the massless fluctuations about each quantum vacuum are generically described by U(1) gauge theory for some n. However, by tuning the parameters of W (Φ) to non-generic values, we can reach singular vacua where additional fields become massless. Using both the matrix model prescriptio...

Simple Singularities and N=2 Supersymmetric Yang-mills Theory

We present a first step towards generalizing the work of Seiberg and Wit-ten on N = 2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory to arbitrary gauge groups. Specifically, we propose a particular sequence of hyperelliptic genus n−1 Riemann surfaces to underly the quantum moduli space of SU (n) N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theory. These curves have an obvious generalization to arbitrary simply laced gauge gro...
