Asar Wave Mode First Geophysical Results

چکیده
Some geophysical calibration results on the level 1 ASAR WVI products are presented in the continuity of the investigations performed on the ERS1/2 SAR Wave Mode products. Investigations have been focussed on comparisons with co-located ECMWF winds. In particular, a calibration constant is tentatively derived using CMOD-IFREMER model function. Following standard azimuthal resolution losses over moving ocean scenes, a cut-off parameter is derived from inter-look spectral analysis. This parameter is further compared to the first and second order statistical moments of the imagette intensity. Taking full advantage of the new ENVISAT Wave Mode products that are now distributed at the SLC stage, along with a good knowledge of the satellite attitude, new insights from the Doppler centroid information are presented here as a very promising technique to monitor sea surface velocities on a synoptic scale.

Validation of Asar Wave Mode Level 2 Product
A first geophysical validation of the ASAR Wave Mode Level 2 product is performed using ASAR Wave Mode data acquired during May 2002, which have been co-located with ECMWF WAM spectra and wind speed data. First calibration results and a comparison of wind speed and wave spectral parameters are presented and discussed. The performance of the product is as expected, with very good agreement in te...
متن کاملGlobal wave model validation using ENVISAT ASAR wave mode data
Spaceborne active radar remote sensing, e.g., radar altimeter (RA) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) have been playing an important role in the validation of numerical wave models, particularly in open ocean. Most forecast centres also use altimeter data in the wave data assimilation process. In this paper we present validation results based on the newly developed CWAVE_ENV algorithm. SAR wave...
متن کاملError Analysis on ESA's Envisat ASAR Wave Mode Significant Wave Height Retrievals Using Triple Collocation Model
Nowadays, spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has become a powerful tool for providing significant wave height (SWH). Traditionally, validation of SAR derived SWH has been carried out against buoy measurements or model outputs, which only yield an inter-comparison, but not an “absolute” validation. In this study, the triple collocation error model has been introduced in the validation of ...
متن کاملA First Assessment of the Asar Wave Mode Properties and Its Complex Imagette Product Characteristics
With its ASAR wave mode, the ENVISAT mission provides a continuity of the ERS-1/2 wave mode, but with more flexible measurement capabilities and an enhanced product variety offered to the user community. Wave vignettes can be taken at 100 km spacing in flight direction either in VV or HH polarization using any of the seven ASAR standard beams. Furthermore, two beams can be used alternatively pr...
متن کاملFirst Analysis of Envisat/asar Image Mode Products for Interferometry
This paper summarizes the first results on interferometric ENVISAT/ ASAR image mode products [1]. We analyzed timing and geometric accuracy as well as the phase of a first interferogram from an IS2 image mode data set (VV polarized). According to the schedule the image mode products of this beam products are the first to be validated [2]. This interferogram is one of the first ENVISAT/ ASAR int...
