چکیده
Introduction Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is considered one of the most convenient and efficient analytical techniques for trace elemental analysis in gases, solids, and liquids. Both non-invasive and non-destructive, LIBS requires little-to-no sample preparation and can easily be performed either in the lab or in the field in hazardous industrial environments in real-time. Remote measurements can be done from more than 50 meters’ distance.

Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy of pure aluminum with high temporal resolution.
We report on a Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) system with a very high temporal resolution, using femtosecond and picosecond pulse laser excitation of pure aluminum (Al). By using a 140 fs Ti:Sapphire laser in an ultrafast optical Kerr gate (OKG), we demonstrate LIBS sampling with a sub-ps time resolution (0.8 ± 0.08 ps) in a 14 ns window. The width of the gating window in this syst...
متن کاملFemtosecond Laser Ablation: Fundamentals and Applications
Traditionally nanosecond laser pulses have been used for Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the samples. Laser produced plasmas using nanosecond laser pulses have been studied extensively since 1960s. With the advent of short and ultrashort laser pulses, there has been a growing interest in the applications of femtosecond and picosecond lase...
متن کاملLong range , high resolution laser radar
Initial laser radar experiments used CO* gas lasers at 10 pm [ I]. These lasers enabled either stable cw operation or high-gain pulsed output and have been used for wind measurements in the atmosphere. Despite the success of COz lasers, there has recently been an increased interest in the use of solid state, 1 urn laser technologies to be used for laser radar studies. The advantages of such a s...
متن کاملBroadband ultraviolet-visible transient absorption spectroscopy in the nanosecond to microsecond time domain with sub-nanosecond time resolution.
A combination of sub-nanosecond photoexcitation and femtosecond supercontinuum probing is used to extend femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy into the nanosecond to microsecond time domain. Employing a passively Q-switched frequency tripled Nd:YAG laser and determining the jitter of the time delay between excitation and probe pulses with a high resolution time delay counter on a single...
متن کاملDe novo determination of bond orientations and order parameters from residual dipolar couplings with high accuracy.
We report the de novo determination of 15N-1H bond orientations and motional order parameters for the protein ubiquitin with high accuracy based solely on NMR residual dipolar coupling measurements made in six distinct alignment media. The resulting bond orientations are in agreement with RDC-refined orientations of either solid or solution state coordinates to within approximately 2 degrees , ...
